John Clancy King, Jr, age 92, of Helena Arkansas passed away Friday, April 4, 2025 in Helena, Arkansas. He was a good man, born on October 6, 1932 and had been a leader all his life. In high school he was President of the Delta Sigma fraternity then was an active member of Kappa Sigma fraternity at the University of Arkansas where he majored in business.
In 1954 he married Ann Trotter of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. They were stationed in England while serving in the US Air Force before returning to Helena where he became a life-long farmer and philanthropist. He believed in his God, his family, and his community. He was the lord's messenger as a Sunday School Teacher at Helena First Presbyterian Church and gave back to the farming community serving on numerous boards including the Arkansas Rice Council, the Cotton Belt Levee Board, and President of the Arkansas Agricultural Council.
John was always a curious man and a big thinker, and his ideas led to important changes within the Helena community. He was a strong supporter of the public school system, Phillips County Community College, and the Housing Authority. He established scholarships at the PCCC and the University of Arkansas. Adjectives to describe him include, a good and gentle man, kind, leader, hard worker with a strong work ethic, determined, generous and always able to have fun.
John is survived by his wife Ann, of 70 years, and his children Ann Cashion (Ted) and Katherine ''Kitty'' Stimson (Gene ''Buddy'') both of Memphis, and John King (Kelly) of Helena. He loved his 8 grandchildren, Trotter Cashion (Jennifer) of Santa Monica CA, Clancy Cashion (Natalie) of New York, Will Cashion (Amy) of Helena, Sarah Grimm of Memphis, Ann Benefield of Charleston, Katy Owens (Townsend) of Birmingham, Hannah Taylor (Corbin) of Franklin TN, and Roman King of Fayetteville. He loved his 17 great-grandchildren offering them stories and cookies at all times.
Services are planned for Saturday, April 12 at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Helena, Arkansas, inurnment will be at Maple Hill cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be sent for the Restoration of the First Presbyterian Church c/o Delta Magic at 218 Waverly Wood Circle, Helena AR 72342 or the Maple Hill Cemetary Endowment at P.O. Box 136, Helena, AR 72342.
His life is over and the victory won-Hallelujah.
