Angela (Angie) Cates Smith, 83, of Clinton went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Born on November 17, 1941 in Marshall, Arkansas to Guy and Lida Cates, she moved to Flint, Michigan as a teenager with her family so her father could earn a living in the auto industry. Her family moved back home within a couple of years and Angie stayed in Michigan to raise her family.
Angie was always a hard-worker. Her passions were real estate and antiques and she worked for a good many years in both. Starting in Flint, Michigan in the early 1970's as a Real Estate Associate, the most advanced role allowed to a woman at the time, Angie never stopped working and advancing until becoming a Broker. In 1978, Angie took a job working the jewelry counter at Woolworth in Flint and within just a year, became the Personnel Manager, in charge of over 150 employees. After moving home to Arkansas in 1987, Angie worked various jobs while providing end-of-life care to her husband during his two-year battle with cancer. She began her work in antiques in the early 1990s, staying active selling real estate and earning top sales awards along the way. Angie worked as long as her body would let her and retired at age 80.
Angie is preceded in death by her beloved son, Steve Logie; her parents, Guy and Lida Cates; her husband of 20 years, John Smith and the father of her children, Richard Logie.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Ramona Miller & husband, Robert Miller; daughters, Lori Gilmore & husband, Bill Gilmore and Cindy Dewitt; Granddaughters, Leah Smith and husband, Josh Smith and Cheyanne Miller & partner, Nathan Morton; Great-Grandchildren, Ryan O'Neal & partner, Hope Walker, Natalie O'Neal, Everly Smith, Nora Smith and the much anticipated soon to arrive, Miss Charli Morton and Great-Great Grandson, Nicholas O'Neal.
All services will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church in Clinton, AR on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. Rosery will be held at 10:00am, Visitation will start at 10:15am, And the funeral service is at 11:00am. Angie will be laid to rest at Shady Grove Cemetery in Shirley, AR.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, Arkansas.
