Betty Jo Curtis

Betty Jo Curtis passed away March 3, 2025 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR at the age of 78. Betty Jo was born March 28, 1946 in Cane Island, AR to Shirl ''Crook'' and Connie Alumbaugh Hurdle. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1964 and went on to work as a secretary and bookkeeper for both Singer and Lincoln for a total of 36 years. In 1968, she met her husband, David and the two went on to have a son, David Brad, in 1972. They were married for 52 years.

Betty Jo was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church on Cane Island for her entire life. For many years Betty Jo sang specials in church on Sunday, sometimes alongside her mother and friend, Wanda Wright. Betty Jo had a beautiful voice, and she always used it to worship God in song. Betty Jo also directed many Christmas programs within the church and served as WMU President for more than 20 years. She had a servant's heart, cherished her church and loved the Lord.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter-in-law, Shea Curtis; a niece, Danette Wixson (Newton); a nephew, Tyler Clark and a very special little boy that made her an honorary grandmother, Slade Gilley.

Betty Jo is survived by her son, Brad Curtis of the home; two sisters, Mildred Rand and Jean Moon both of Lake City; three nieces, Roxann Smith, Angie Calahan and Shelly Rand all of Lake City; one nephew, Toby Rand (Suzanne) of Lake City; five great nieces; two great nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews.

Church services will be 2 pm Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Bethabara Baptist Church, 2235 CR 505 in Lake City with Bro. Roger Duffel and Bro. Darin Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Lower Cane Island Cemetery.

Visitation will precede the service at the church and begin at 12 pm until 2 pm.

William Curtis, Randall Curtis, Toby Rand, Bobby Eaton, Kevin Pyburn and Barry Weyer will serve as pallbearers. Donnie Ashabanner, Rick Brewer, Jerry Freeman, George Wright, Marvin White and The Class of 1964 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
