of Sherwood, AR
February 12, 1939 - February 27, 2025
Jimmy Lee West, 86, of Sherwood went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, February 27, 2025. He was born to the late Virgil and Ophelia West in their Walnut Grove home site in Cord, Arkansas. Jim married Peggy in 1964 and they resided in North Little Rock and had two kids and a wonderful life together for 44 years. She departed to Heaven in 2008. He had fearless, unwavering faith in God and attended Full Counsel Metro Church. He did his basic Army training at Ft. Chafee, Arkansas and was an Infantryman and Expert Marksman in the Army National Guard and served peacetime at Camp Robinson.
He started Jim West Upholstery in the 60's and took his talent to Falcon Jet in the mid-70's. He retired at the age of 70 after 32 years of dedicated service. After his retirement, he enjoyed playing music with his friends at the Hays Center ''Gospel Sing''. He was an accomplished guitarist and fiddle player. He also played the harmonica, piano, organ, accordion, saxophone, mandolin and just about any other instrument he picked up. That may have been because one of the first jobs he had when he came to Little Rock was at a music store. He often reminded his kids when they were little and they'd ask him for money that his first cash crop was cotton and he was 11 years old. He also bragged to them that he'd drive up to Earnhardt's Café in Batesville and get two glazed donuts and good coffee when he would practice his driving and take his dad to work on Saturdays at about 14.
Jim loved to sight see and was a walking, talking encyclopedia of all things classic cars. He often traveled the backroads of Arkansas with his best friend, Daphne Williamson. She marveled at his ability to look at headlights and door handles and tell her exactly what year that particular make and model was and he would also tell her what changed on the vehicle as the years progressed. They enjoyed many day trips exploring Arkansas and the neighboring states.
Jim put special attention and detail into everything he did, especially his yard work. People would often stop their cars to tell him how nice his yard looked while he was out mowing and putting the ''Jim West Edge'' on his yard, as he called it.
He is survived by his sister, Kay Morrison (Floyd) of Newark and their sons and family; his cousin, Linda Nelson (Dan) of Little Rock and their kids and family; his son, Philip West (Rhonda) of Sherwood; his daughter, Laura West-Hinojosa (Eric) of South Padre Island, Texas; his grandson, Greg West (Sara); his granddaughter, Tiffany Tyler Belasco; his grandson, Austin Tyler (Vivian); his grandson, Spencer West and his grand-dog, Dr. Pepper. He is also survived by great grandson, Forrest.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 JFK Blvd. in North Little Rock. His celebration funeral service will be Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. at Full Counsel Metro Church, 1700 Maple St. in North Little Rock. A vehicle procession will be in line to leave the church immediately following the conclusion of his service. Upon arrival at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas a graveside ceremony with military honors will be carried out at 11:00 a.m. His body will be laid to rest next to his wife, while his spirit is rejoicing in Heaven forevermore.
