Verna Faye Payne, 85, of Searcy, Arkansas passed away on February 14, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on Saturday, November 18, 1939 in Searcy to her parents, William Ralph and Virginia Mae Wyatt Cox.

Mrs. Payne attended college and became an Optician and worked in that field for over 40 years. In 1957 she met and married George R. Payne who worked for the Eaton Corporation in Searcy. She was a member of the Foothills Church of Christ.

Verna and George moved to Arizona for a time and they both fell in love with the Southwest part of the United States. They moved back to Arkansas to live and help take care of their parents. Verna loved to travel, especially to the Southwest, so that she continued to look at the Southwest as her second home. She loved her family and enjoyed being with them, especially at the holidays.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George R. Payne; her son, Gary L. Payne and one sister, Becky Joy Cox.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, David L. (Kathy) Payne of Judsonia; her daughter, Georgia Ann (John ''JD'') Schwerdtfeger of Searcy; two grandchildren, Jason Payne and Tracey Gillham; two great-grandchildren, David W. and Shelby Brook Payne; along with a host of friends.

A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Searcy. Services are under the direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home.
