Loy Woods, 74, of Jonesboro passed away peacefully Sunday, February 2, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. He was born August 21, 1950 in Jonesboro, AR to Lloyd and Lucille (Dunlap) Woods. Loy was a local businessman for many years. He owned a contracting company which led him to thrive as a builder and carpenter. He also then bought and ran a small grocery/convenience store on N Culberhouse called Stop N Shop, which later became the Big Creek General Store. The customers and employees of this store became family to him and our family. Some of his most endearing relationships were developed during the 20 years he had ''the store''.

Loy proudly served 2 tours in the Republic of South Vietnam from 1969 to 1971 as an Army Ranger in the 75th Airborne Regiment. Although he was treated poorly upon returning home from Vietnam, later in life he embraced and was honored to have served his country when called upon. He became involved in his local Disabled American Veterans group, the Memphis Veterans Center group, and several other local organizations.

In his healthier years Loy enjoyed fishing and riding horses. Many great friendships were made on the many long trail rides and horse gatherings. The other thing he enjoyed was just piddling around in his shop with all the toys, tools and tractors he had collected over a lifetime.

Preceding him in death are his parents; 2 brothers, Larry Woods of Clover Bend and Terry Woods of Dexter, MO and 2 sisters, Shirley Williams of Dexter and Sharon Brown of Jonesboro.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years Mary Woods; son, David Woods; daughter, Kristen Woods Stutts and two grandsons, Davis Woods and Spencer Stutts.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W Washington Ave, Jonesboro.

A private service will be at Veterans Cemetery, Birdeye, AR.
