Esther Sitton White

of North Little Rock, AR

May 1, 1947 - January 7, 2025

Esther Sitton ("Sissy") White passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born May 1, 1947, to Roy Madison ("Dick") White and Esther Sitton White in Greenville, South Carolina. Her father was tragically killed in a plane crash when Esther was eight years old. Her mother later married Harris Miller Pope, Sr., and Esther moved with her family to Thomasville, Georgia, for Colonel Pope's new position as head of Civil Defense for the southeast U.S.

Esther attended school in Thomasville where she graduated with honors in 1965. Upon graduation from Florida State University, she began her long career as a teacher in Atlanta, Georgia. After many years dedicating herself to educating students, Esther retired to the mountains of western North Carolina where she created a business, Aunt Sis's Place for Dogs. She offered a safe, loving, and comfortable environment for pets when their owners were away. Through this business, Esther became known for the care and the personal attention she gave to each dog, treating them as her own. She successfully ran the business for many years until she was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident. Afterwards, Esther moved to Arkansas to be closer to her brother and his wife, Dusty and Sylvia White, and their family.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Madison White and Esther White Pope; stepfather, Harris Pope; siblings, Dusty White and Miller Pope; and her nephew, Matthew White.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sylvia White; nephew, Michael White (Elizabeth); great niece, Helen White; and great nephews, Davis and Harris White. She is also survived by two sister-like cousins, Jo Marshall Roper and Clara Marshall Rogers.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in Greenville, South Carolina, in honor of Sissy's request to be buried next to her father. Arrangements made by Roller-Owens Funeral Home, North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Memorial donations may be made to the Avery Humane Society, 279 New Vale Road, Newland, North Carolina 28657 (www.averyhumane.org)
