of Austin, AR
December 16, 1935 - December 29, 2024
Ruby Virginia Brown of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on December 29th, 2024.
Ruby was born in Hot Spring County, Arkansas on December 16th, 1935 to Newton and Irene Nutt. She was the third oldest and oldest girl of 7 children. Growing up in Malvern, in a family of sharecroppers, her early years saw them working on others' farms, loading up what they could fit onto a mule and buggy when the season was over before moving onto the next. She spent this time in her life helping her family work the sorghum and cotton fields, as well as raising her younger siblings.
After graduating High School, Ruby moved to Little Rock. It was there that she attended and graduated from Draughon School of Business, working her way through school as a switchboard operator. Upon graduating, she began work for the Credit Union at St. Vincent Hospital. Years later, on a blind date, she would meet a young man by the name of Bill Brown and after a short six months of dating, on June 30th, 1965, they would marry. Their first three years of marriage would see them welcome into this world two children, Barbara and Beth. Outside of being a mother to her two girls, Ruby enjoyed sewing, spending time working outside and tending to her flower beds. She called Scenic Hill in North Little Rock home, though she spent her final months living in Austin, Arkansas with her granddaughter, Brianna.
Ruby or "Nan" as she was lovingly known, dedicated her life to family and raising children, whether her siblings, her own children, grandchildren, great-grandchild or any others that happened to find their way into her care. She was wholly selfless, kind, funny, patient, giving, loving, caring and hard-working. She was a teacher, a supporter, an encourager, a smile or a laugh to brighten your day or a shoulder to cry on. She was truly a light in this world for all those lucky enough to know her and she will be so greatly missed.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Newton and Irene Nutt, as well as by her brothers, Richard, Sonny and Harold-Dean.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Bill Brown; by her daughters, Barbara (Brett) Stubblefield of Ward, Arkansas and Beth Comford of Conway, Arkansas; by her grandchildren, John Comford of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Britney Kelley of Ward, Arkansas, Brianna Kelley of Austin, Arkansas and Sydney (Aaron) Wolfe of Cabot, Arkansas; by her great-grandchildren, Jordan Telles of Ward, Arkansas and Carson Wolfe of Cabot, Arkansas; by her sisters, Mary (Robert) Boshears of Bismarck, Arkansas and Joyce Vaughn of Malvern, Arkansas; by her brother, Bobby Nutt of Sesser, Ill and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A family burial will be held at a later date.
