Lee P. Burks, age 82, of Haskell passed away on December 27, 2024 in Benton, Arkansas. Lee was born September 27, 1942 to Mary Lizabeth Suttles Harris and Charlie Harris. The youngest of ten children to the couple, she was born in Knoxville, Tennessee at home with only her mother present for her birth.
Lee was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill T. Burks; son, Kenneth Earl Burks; step father, Lester Duncan; nine siblings, Hazel Ruth Harris, Mary Belle McKeehan, John Harris, Charlie Harris, Dorothy Thula Harris, Evelyn Mae Bentley, Julie Anne Packard, Archie and Arlie Harris; granddaughter, Amber Lee Burks; twin grandsons, Bradley and Brandon Burks and her daughter-in-law, Judith Burks.
Lee met the love of her life while working at Snearley's Drive-In on Edison Avenue. Bill and Lee married March 14, 1959 at Highland Heights Baptist Church. They lived in Denver, Colorado for a brief period but returned to Arkansas and eventually settled in Haskell. While raising their boys, the family made many trips to Buckville and spent ample time outdoors. Lee was always a hard worker and helped to provide for her family through a variety of occupations. Over the years, she worked in a furniture factory, the lunchroom at Harmony Grove School, in clinic with Dr. Kirk and Dr. Taggart and eventually retired from Benton Services Center (Arkansas Health Center) as an Activities Director in 2003. Lee had many animal companions, including horses, dogs, a few cats and her backyard songbirds. During retirement, she stayed busy spending time with Bill, their grandkids and later great grandkids. She loved spending mornings on her back porch, working in her flower beds, walking for exercise and relaxation and looking for opportunities to help others. Lee was a member of Francois Missionary Baptist Church in Malvern.
She is survived by her loving son, Keith Lee Burks; daughter-in-law, Regina Burks; grandchildren. Jessica Mashburn and husband. Jake, Bailee Brown; eight great grandchildren. Aiden T, Austen Lee, Ava Marie, Addy Kay, Arynn Lizabeth, Andrew Kenneth, Annie Rose Mashburn and Rosie Brown all of Haskell; sister by love, Lou Packer of Mt. Ida and sister-in-law, Cookie Burks of Benton.
Pallbearers will be Brian Callahan, Aiden Mashburn, Austen Mashburn, Adam Ricketts, Doug Sanford and Russell Statler, honorary pallbearer, Andrew Mashburn.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Roller-Alcoa Funeral Home in Benton. Visitation will be at 9:00 am followed by the funeral at 10:00 am, burial at Ten Mile Cemetery in Lonsdale with Pastor W. A. Dillard and Jake Mashburn officiating.
