Calvin Carlson was born on April 2, 1935 in Ulysses, Nebraska to John and Mary (Schmid) Uphoff.
He was a coin collector for over 80 years and was extremely knowledgeable in numismatics. He owned & operated Southern Coin Exchange in Conway during the 1970s & 1980s. He was an auto mechanic by trade including employment at Terry Tire of Conway for many years. Prior to retirement, he served as a custodian at Mayflower Middle School in Mayflower. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, a huge supporter of the Mayflower Eagles and participating in coin shows. He also operated a flea market and enjoyed antiquing. He was an assistant at Ye Olde Coin Shoppe in Conway where he loved talking to customers about coins.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheryl Dycus (Tim) of Mayflower and his grandchildren, Rachel Long (Chad) and Jordan Dycus all of Mayflower and Haven Gay (Tucker) of Fort Smith; along with two great-granddaughters, Brianna & Adalyn.
He is also survived by his children of Nebraska, Michael Uphoff (MaryJo), Michele (Doug) Sells and Marche' Augustine; along with his grandchildren, Michael Uphoff Jr., Matt Uphoff (Megan), Mark Uphoff (Hope), Nicholas Sells (Calista), Scott Sells, C.J. Augustine (Cortny), Travis Augustine and great-grandchildren, Pierce, Eliza Jo, Sawyer, Eddison, Jaedon, Tex and Mila. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Uphoff and a son, Monte Uphoff.
There will be a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Mayflower United Pentecostal Church in Mayflower. More information will be posted prior to his memorial service. All family and friends are invited to attend.
