Marshal James Berg, age 93, of Cotter, Arkansas passed away Saturday, November 30th in Gassville Nursing Home, Cotter, Arkansas.
He was born August 5, 1931 in Washington Township, Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Melvin O. and Lottie (Scott) Berg.
Marshal graduated from Eau Claire Senior High in 1949.
He entered the Service (U.S. Army), the day after his graduation and served honorably for the next 32 years.
Marshal married Clara Dean Brainerd on 14 June 1969 in Odessa, Texas. He is survived by their two daughters, Anu Berg and Menoka Damaren both of Jacksonville, Florida.
He was preceded in death by Clara Dean, his wife of 50 years and by both parents; his brother, Charles and his sister, Jean Marie Freeberg.
Marshal retired from the U. S. Army in the grade of Captain, having received numerous awards for his faithful and dedicated service, among them the Legion of Merit and 3 Bronze Stars - one with a "V" for valor.
Marshal served for 18 1/2 years in the U. S. Postal Service and was the postmaster of Oakland, Arkansas.
Marshal was born into God's family having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in Berlin, Germany on 16 February 1972. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord. Marshal was a deacon at Eastside Baptist Church in Mountain Home for 32 years, having served on various ministry teams. Marshal was involved in the renovation of the old Cotter Gym and worked at the Mountain Home Christian Clinic and Ministry in Haiti.
Captain Berg is being buried with military honors and arrangements by Roller Funeral Home, Mountain Home, Arkansas

Services for Capt. Berg will be Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the East Side Baptist Church in Mountain Home, AR
