Martha Earlene Whitted

Martha Earlene Whitted went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 in Helena, Arkansas at the age of 95. She was born on Saturday, May 18, 1929 in Marvell, Arkansas to the late Ed and Lottie Cotton Foster.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ.

In 1946 she met the love of her life, Elijah Marion Whitted, fresh out of the U.S. Navy WWII Pacific campaign. They married in 1947 and spent 27 years together before his passing in 1974. In the 1950s they relocated from the Marvell\Cypert area to the little house on the Wayside Gin property which is now the Delta Heritage Trails State Park. He was the cotton ginner and she was a stay-at-home mother.

She loved yard work and caring for her flowers. If she saw a yard sale, she had to stop. The best present her family could give her was a watermelon.

She leaves behind a son, Daniel (Edith) Whitted of Clarksville; daughters, Martha ''Jennie'' Yates (Melvin) of West Memphis, Evelyn Griffin (Howard) of Helena, Donna Batts (Charlie) of Marion and Sandra Von Kanel (Jim) of Wynne; sisters, Annie Lois Abney of Mississippi and Geraldine Ann Bramlett of Texas; twenty-eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Lottie Foster; husband, Marion Whitted; son, Lendsey Whitted; sisters, Ethlean Weeks and Eunice Vanlandingham; stepsisters, Betty Jane Harvey and Aressa Reasoner; brothers, O.D. Foster, Mabry Foster, Johnnie Foster and Alan Foster and stepbrother, Walter Turner.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, John Griffin, Michael Boydston, Brandon Batts, Nathan Whitted, Jimmy Von Kanel and Ryan Whitted.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Yates, Richard Yates, Jeffery Von Kanel and Charles Stanton.

A graveside service for Marhta Whitted will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in West Helena, Arkansas. A visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at Roller-Citizens Chapel in West Helena, Arkansas. Martha's nephew, Kenny Weeks will officiate.
