of Little Rock, AR
April 29, 1946 - November 10, 2024
Judith Kay Faust, 78, died on Sunday, November 10, 2024, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Judith was born on April 29, 1946, to Doris K. and Joseph B. Faust in Memphis, Tennessee. Judith graduated from Nicholas Blackwell High School in Bartlett, Tennessee, and earned an undergraduate degree with a double major in journalism and philosophy from the University of Kansas. She earned an MSW from Tulane University.
Judith had a long, interesting career as director of a program for runaway and homeless youth, as a book editor, and as director of a management support organization for Arkansas nonprofit organizations. She also served as director of the state's Division of Children and Family Services. She spent the last two decades of her career teaching graduate students in social work at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where she was an inspiring teacher and mentor.
Judith was brilliant and charismatic, drawing people into her orbit wherever she went. Her circle of friends was wide and diverse. She described herself as ''Reader. Walker. Noticer. Artist. Seeker after Justice. Crone, at last!'' She was a talented artist, skilled writer, and a vibrant and clever person.
Judith volunteered with KUAR, Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church, and, as Judith wrote, ''pretty much whoever asked'' her to volunteer or help with their organizations.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 23, at Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church, 1601 S. Louisiana Street. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Judith's memory to the Central Arkansas Library Foundation, KUAR-KLRE, Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church, ACLU of Arkansas Foundation, or the Progressive Arkansas Women PAC.
