February 23, 1935 - October 30, 2024
Dorothy Sue Plumlee, 89, of Little Rock, Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 30, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 23, 1935 in Monticello, Arkansas to the late Vance Hughes and Edna Fredrickson Rial. Ms. Plumlee was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Vinetta Bailey Rial; brother, Carl William Rial and grandsons, Michael Allen and Greg Terry Clark.
She is survived by her three daughters, Mickey Alleen Burroughs (Marshall), Tracy Diane Robinson and Twyla Marie Clark (Gary); five grandchildren, Andi Ray (Nathan), Melina Stowe, KL Robinson (Kirsten), Shane Clark (Wendy), MaRanda Robinson (Sean); nine great grandchildren, Deven Stowe (Kayla), Kode Stowe (Danyelle), Angel, Dixie and Kennedy Robinson, Oliver Pullen, Allison, Dalton, and Oaklyn Clark; and Layla Purifoy; four great great grandchildren, Zoee, Kash, Jaci and Jenni Mae Stowe; sister, Rosa May Milburn and a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.
It was well known that God was first in her life, followed by her family and then of course, the Arkansas Razorbacks. Eventually, she added Notre Dame and the Chiefs. She was very vocal when cheering on her favorite teams and her wardrobe equally reflected her fandom.
Ms. Plumlee's life was earmarked with consistent church attendance wherever life took her. As a child she attended church with her parents at the First Church of the Nazarene in North Little Rock where her Christian life began. At age of 36, she became a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Little Rock and later became a member of Landmark Pentecostal Church with other members of her family. In her later years she would attend various churches with her family, such as Word Aflame Church, Apostolic North Little Rock and New Life Church in Cabot. Even though declining health restricted in-person attendance, she faithfully enjoyed the gospel on television, listened to Christian music, read her Bible and devotions. She enjoyed watching her grandson, Rev. Shane Clark, preach the gospel through social media. Through the witness of a life lived for Christ, Ms. Plumlee inspired many family members to dedicate their lives to Jesus. Her devotion to the Lord was unwavering, even in the difficulty of her final days.
Throughout her life she had the pleasure to travel and live in many places, all of which are too numerous to count, one which included a stent overseas in Germany. In her earlier years, she bowled in an elite league and was quite a competitor. The name ''Dot'' was engraved on her blue bowling ball. While in Texas, she drove a 65/66 black GTO with red interior in powder-puff drag races. She loved driving fast, having no recollection of any speeding tickets. She was known as an avid shooter. When tough times came, she willingly laid aside her passions to provide for her three daughters. As a mother of three, she served on the PTA and cherished each and every moment. She desired for her children to be well dressed and learned to sew for them early on. To help provide for her family, she also babysat and did laundry for other families. Many a day, her refrigerator was full of damp clothes she was preparing to iron.
Professionally she worked at Kellwood Company and Timex. She was later employed at the Hilton Hotel as a floor supervisor of housekeeping, advancing her career as assistant housekeeper at the Capitol Hotel. Wanting to spend more time with her family, she pursued cleaning houses for individual clients.
Her parents owned the Lazy R Quarter Horse Ranch in Beebe. Although Dorothy was surrounded by horses, she never actually rode one. She enjoyed the outdoors, the beach, a cool breeze and her big glass of southern sweet tea. She spent many days on her front porch in her rocking chair watching the hummingbirds surrounded by beautiful rose bushes and colorful flowers.
Ms. Plumlee was also known as Mom, Mama Dot, Aunt Dot, Grandma, Nanny, Little Mama and our Angel. She was loved and cherished by all that knew her.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Hospice Home Care. Melanie Loyd RN, Case Manager; Kendra Stuckey, Social Worker and Rosemarie Bancroft, Nurse's Aide, who became like family. The compassion they provided went above and beyond expectations.
