George "G. B." Berry Harp

George Berry "G. B." Harp, age 77, of Harrison died on Friday, October 25, 2024 at his home with his wife of 35 years, Debbie, by his side. He was born March 20, 1949 in Harrison, the son of Hulin Devoe and Sybil (Cone) Harp. Along with his parents, G. B. was preceded in death by his two brothers, Harlin Harp and Dwayne Harp and his sister, Jackie Starkey.

G. B. married Debbie on May 12, 1989. He started with the Arkansas State Police as a radio operator in 1974 and was then commissioned as a trooper in June of 1980. He trained in Accident Reconstruction at Central Missouri State in 1989 and became one of only 7 troopers trained in the Arkansas State Police and taught many classes to law enforcement to advance this field.

In 1995, G. B. was promoted to Sergeant with Troop H, which is the largest post in the Arkansas State Police. In 1998, he was promoted to Lieutenant with Troop H, where he served on a committee of 3 supervisors to revise the Highway Patrol section of the Arkansas State Police manual. In 1999, he was promoted to Captain of Troop I covering 8 counties of North Central Arkansas. He collaborated to create a response guide to emergency situations. He retired as Troop Commander of Troop I, Arkansas State Police with 37 years of service.

Along with G. B.'s loving wife, Debbie, he is survived by his 3 sons, Galen (Jennifer) Harp, Joey (Nicole) Gilliam and Michael Harp; one daughter, Jennifer (Mickey) Graham; nine grandchildren, Christian and Noah Harp, James Berry and Matthew Graham, Kaitlin (Ben) Ingle, Drake and Avery Williams, Andrew Gilliam and Gretchen Harp; his 1 great-granddaughter, Myla Grace Williams and his two Shi-Tzu dogs, Conway and Jones.

"G. B.'s 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter, along with his 4 children, are the legacy of his life."


The Memorial service was on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the Signature Building, 303 N. Main Street, in Harrison.
