Margarett Arlene (Smith) McCuin, wife of the late John Donald ''J.D.'' McCuin, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 25, 2024 at the age of 83. She was born on June 18, 1941 in Little Rock, Pulaski Co. AR to Arlie Marvin Smith and Alice Marie (Porter) Smith, both deceased.
Margarett was a graduate of Fuller High School. Margarett and J.D. were married in Las Vegas, NV on January 19, 1960. They were both employed in lifelong civil service positions at the U.S. Marine Corps Logistics Base in Yermo, CA where they eventually retired. Upon retirement they returned home to Little Rock. Margarett was a devout Christian. She taught Sunday School and loved singing religious hymns. She would often teach and sing at the Compassion Center and to residents at area nursing homes. She loved traveling, camping and fishing. Margarett and J.D. traveled throughout the western U.S. and visited most National Parks throughout that region. One of their favorite destinations while living in Little Rock was Tar Camp near Redfield.
Margarett had eleven siblings. She was predeceased by a half-sister, Thelma Marie Cole; a half-brother, Monroe Albert ''Bud'' Smith; her sisters, Verna Jean Glasner, Linda Mae Eccher, Gracie Louise Ball, Catherine Sue Eccher and brother, Edgar Thomas Smith, Sr. She is survived by her sisters, Letha Faye Fithen and Janie Alice Clemens and brother, Wm. Allen Smith and her beloved canine companion, ''Roxie''. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be conducted at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home at 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, AR 72209 on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 12:30 pm with a funeral service at 1:30 pm. Brother George Yarberry of New Hope Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, 7401 Ark. Hwy. 5, Alexander, AR.
The family wants to thank the many friends that assisted and looked after Margarett, particularly Cathy Glasner for the extensive care and assistance she provided. The family also thanks Hospice Home Care for the care they provided in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Margarett's honor to The Compassion Center, 3618 Roosevelt Rd., Little Rock, AR 72204.
