of West Memphis, AR
January 14, 1951 - October 2, 2024
Raymond Deurant McLeroy, 73, was born on January 14, 1951 and entered his Heavenly home on October 2, 2024.
Raymond was married to the love of his life for over 50 years. He never missed an opportunity to say how beautiful she was and that he loved her. He always took an active interest in his children's lives and his love was felt unconditionally. His passion was spending time with his family, whether it was playing video games late into the night or relaxing on the beach. Raymond was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. Over the years he served in many areas, especially in the children's and youth ministries, as he had a heart for children. He played a pivotal role in the church's Wednesday Night Live children's ministry. Raymond retired after a 37 year career with AT&T. During his time there, he received the Rider Service Award commending him for going above and beyond in helping to restore communication to the community after the Hickory Ridge tornado in 1997. From his 1964 Impala Super Sport, to his 2010 Ford Mustang Convertible, Raymond was a car enthusiast.
Raymond shared his enjoyment of cars with others, especially as he chauffeured his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Poppy, around town in his Mustang. He was also thrilled to escort homecoming royalty in parades. Always a giver, it would be Raymond's desire that no opportunity would be missed in helping others. His family lovingly donated to Mid America Transplant, where He will be able to help people in their time of need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.D. McLeroy and sister, Kathy Cook. He is survived by his wife, Susan McLeroy; daughter, Kimberly Hunt (Josh); son, Matthew McLeroy (Brandi); grandchildren, Taylor Hunt and Jude Hunt; sisters, Eva Dodson and Martha Sparks Morten and brother, Edward McLeroy. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Raymond's honor to St. Jude Hospital, Alzheimer's Association, Calvary Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
Services for Raymond will be held on October 10, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1600 N Avalon, West Memphis, Arkansas, 72301. Visitation will begin at 11AM with the funeral service to follow at 12PM. Burial will take place at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Arkansas.
