Kathleen Minnie Meyer Brown's life story concluded on September 10, 2024, on a clear day with beautiful gardening weather, at 91 years old.

The first nonagenarian in her family's history, Kathy Brown spent her long life being actively curious. She traveled the globe extensively and visited every US State except Michigan. In addition to three generations of cherished family, Kathy leaves behind a library's worth of finished books, countless delicious recipes and beautiful quilts and such worldly gems as, ''I don't know if that snake is poisonous, but I bet he doesn't brush his teeth!''.

Kathleen Minnie Brown was born on April 29, 1933 in Houston, Texas. She spent her life in South Texas until she met Kenneth Brown, with whom she shared 46 years and three children, David, Steven and Rebecca. Ken's career in the US Military sent their family to Hawaii and Japan and inspired Kathy's lifelong love of travel.

The world changed at least a dozen times while Kathy was in it. She was there for the suffering and renewal in The Great Depression and New Deal. She watched as hard problems had hard solutions in World War II, in the wars in Korea and Vietnam and during the crisis in Cuba. Kathy was moved as humans grew and learned during The Civil Rights movement and The Space Race. Kathy saw fifteen presidential administrations, lots of ''first woman or person of color ever to…'' and innumerable scientific and technological advances (perhaps most notably for Granny, the Amazon kindle).

Kathy's view of the world was molded by her years and years of observing it, and she ended her life with firm belief in God, in equal rights and in equitable opportunities for everyone.

Our Mom and Granny is preceded in death by her husband, Ken; her parents, Hugo and Mickey Meyer and her siblings, Sylvia, Shirley, Mildred, Marvin and Judith.

She is survived by her children, David (Brenda) Brown of Benton, Rebecca Brown Campbell of Bryant and Steven (Linda) Brown of Albuquerque.

Kathy's grandchildren, Drake (Erin) Campbell, Hanna (Tony) Manning, Tara (Anthony) Best, Joshua (Heather) Brown, Daniel Brown, Lauren Brown, Julia Brown, Aaron Brown and Matthew Brown, will remember her wit and unflappability, as well as the kitchen-counter canister filled with 5-piece packs of sugar-free gum we could take at will and the smell of the bug spray she'd put on our ankles before we wandered the woods surrounding the Lake Norrell house our parents grew up in.

Kathy's great-grandchildren, Campbell and Knox Manning and Scarlett and Tobias Best will grow up with undeniable proof of how far you can go if you choose to be curious in the face of the unknown and that you can stay sharp as a tack until the very end if you read a lot of good books.
