of Greenbrier, AR
August 13, 1954 - June 22, 2024
Daniel Cunningham was born August 13, 1954 in Dallas, Texas. Dan moved to Greenbrier, Arkansas when he was 12 years old with his family when they bought the Greenbrier Café and Motel in 1966. Dan passed away June 22, 2024 after a battle with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. Dan fought ''the good fight'' to the very end.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper Hayden (Pop) and Ella Pauline (Polly) Cunningham and three half- brothers, Hayden, Billie Lee and Gene Cunningham all of Dallas, Texas.
Dan is survived by his wife of 39 years, Anita Wilks Cunningham; two sons, Daniel Scott Cunningham and Samuel Haden (Brooklyn) Cunningham; two precious grandchildren, Finn Wilder Cunningham and Elsie Grey Cunningham all of Greenbrier; two brothers, Joseph (Ramona) Cunningham of Bethany, Oklahoma and Bill (Diane) Cunningham of Conway, Arkansas; a sister, Glendon Graham of Greenbrier, Arkansas and two half-sisters, Sue Marlar of Greenville, Texas and Kay Kindle of Leonard, Texas; as well as beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Also, by his companion and confidant, his dog Rusty. Dan said Rusty was a great listener and they had many conversations when they were alone. Dan never complained much about the pain he endured from cancer or about the disease in general, but it is suspected that because Dan didn't want to worry his family, Rusty knows more than anyone else how Dan felt.
Dan was completely devoted to his family and worked exceedingly hard to take care of them. Even though Dan worked many, many hours, he made it to all their sporting and other events and taught his sons they could do anything they set their minds to do. Dan loved his family and his grandkids were a special joy to him.
Dan had successful careers as a self-employed, self-taught paint and body shop owner, plant manager of Hostmann-Steinberg/National Printing Ink and he recently retired after 19 years of service in various positions at Fidelity Information Services. Dan was multi-talented in many areas. He always wanted to be learning something new. His greatest interests were mechanical and technical. Dan was given the nickname Mr. Fix It. He loved the challenge to fix anything that was broken, be it a computer, an auto, electronics, appliances, lawnmowers and anything else that needed fixing. It was important to him that his boys learned how to fix things themselves whenever possible as well. Dan was also known for getting the best price for almost everything he purchased. He enjoyed finding ''Deeply Discounted Items,'' bargains and clearance items and had a line in his personal budget for this. Paying full price for something was not an option for him.
Noteworthy is Dan's sense of humor. His quick wit would make you laugh even on the worst of days-and even on his worst days. Most important is Dan's profession of faith and baptism in 1986. Dan knew Jesus as his personal Savior and was secure in the knowledge that he would go to heaven when he died.
