Shirley Anne Reed

of North Little Rock, AR

March 17, 1937 - June 8, 2024

Shirley Anne Waymon Reed was born on Wednesday, March 17, 1937 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. Nineteen years and two days after she lost her beloved husband, Dwaine, Shirley passed into heaven during the early hours of Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the age of eighty-seven. Her parents, Fred and Edna (Johnson) Waymon; her brothers, Verl Waymon and Lawson Bass and sister, Joyce Cooper, preceded her in death, as did her daughter, Julie Anne Reed and her granddaughter, Katie Anne Villines Thomas.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Dana Reed Villines; her son, Eddie Reed; granddaughters, Amanda Villines Cowger and Emily Reed and grandson-in-law, Jared Thomas. Also loved by Mimi, are her great-grandchildren, Luke Thomas, Sam Cowger and Julie Kate Cowger.

Shirley frequently reminisced about growing up in Pocahontas. She loved to tell stories about getting into trouble with her best friend, Peggy and babysitting her two baby nephews. She was a proud graduate of Pocahontas High School class of 1954. Dwaine and Shirley married in 1957. For nine years, Dwaine worked for the railroad and the family moved more than thirty-six times during that time. In 1967, they settled in North Little Rock. After her children were older, Shirley worked in the credit department at Sears McCain Mall for twenty-five years. She loved every minute.

Baptized at an early age, Shirley was a faithful Christian-the last fifty plus years in service to the Levy Church of Christ, North Little Rock. If the doors were open, she was there. For illness or sadness at someone's home, a cake or casserole was delivered. She spent several years visiting friends in hospitals and nursing homes trying to brighten their day.

Many thanks are extended to those who went out of their way to visit in the last years when Alzheimer's took its toll-- John Robinson, Deby and Joe Morceri, Danny and Roberta Waymon, Jennifer and Chuck Allen, Brenda Jones and Kyle Murray.

The family would like to thank the employees at Stonebridge for caring for her during COVID (which she survived). Deepest thanks to Perryville Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice for the kind, loving care provided the last six months.

Shirley-Mom-Mimi was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 16, at 2:00pm at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, AR. Private burial will be later at Randolph Memorial Gardens in Pocahontas, AR.
