Harold Dean Mathews was born on October 23, 1932 at Stuttgart, Arkansas. He passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024 in West Plains, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence A. and Ethel G. Mathews; one brother, Orbra J. Mathews, Sebring, Florida; one Stepson, James W. Hallman of Bradford, Tennessee; His wife, Helen L. Mathews; one sister, Dot Branch of Trimble, Tennessee; one daughter, Deborah K. Yarbrough of Mayflower, Arkansas and One stepdaughter, Rhonda M. Hallman of Pomona, Missouri.
He is survived by one son, Bruce W. Mathews of Pomona, Missouri; six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was a 1952 graduate of Stuttgart High School. In September 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and saw action in Korea. His three years was in anti-Aircraft artillery.
He spent 43 years behind the scenes in television. April of 1956 he went to work at KTHV in Little Rock, Arkansas. In October 1966 he went to work for the state of Arkansas to help build the PBS outlet for Arkansas which is now known as AETN. He retired from there on December 30, 1999 and moved to a 40 acre farm at Pomona, Missouri. Conway was growing too fast.
In 2001 he became a member of the veterans honor guard of West Plains, Missouri. In 2004 he became a commander until his passing on May 25, 2024.
A visitation will be held at Roller McNutt Funeral Home on Sunday June 2, 2024 from 6-8pm. There will be a graveside service on Monday, June 3, 2024 starting at 2pm at Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart, Arkansas, where he will be laid to rest.
