October 17, 1939 - May 23, 2024
Carrie Mae (Eudy) Vaughn was born Tuesday, October 17th, 1939 in Paragould, Arkansas to the late William F. and Bytha Eudy. She passed away on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, at the age of 84.
On March 31, 1957, she married the great love of her life, Jerry Donald Vaughn. Throughout their marriage they shared many ups and downs as they navigated their life together. Their faithful devotion and commitment to each other set a great example for others to follow.
In addition to her role as wife, Carrie was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, affectionately known as ''Mammie''. She was dearly loved by her family. She had a way with children, engaging them in crafts and fun activities, yet with a knack for making them ''mind''. She was famous for sitting in her chair and rocking with a fly swatter in hand, as young grandchildren attempted to avoid nap time! Her creativity in child-tending was evident as she told them ''Touch your nose'', to keep from getting their hands shut in the car door when going on an adventure (to Country Kitchen, no doubt!). Her well-stocked playroom included supplies which encouraged creative play, including various themes for grandchild parades through the house, much to the enjoyment of audience members.
She loved sewing and needlework, including quilting. When visiting the home, one could always expect a tour of the sewing room, complete with explanations of her latest project which was laid across the bed. In recent years she undertook a project to finish a quilting project which had been started by her sister, Mildred. Carrie took pride in her work, always striving for excellence in neat stitches, even on the back of the fabric.
She also loved flowers, especially their famous yellow ''Miranda'' rosebush. She was assisted in plant-tending by her husband, Donald, with regular applications of Miracle Grow. Visitors to the home could count on being delighted by the flowerbed as they made their way to the front door.
No discussion of Mammie Carrie would be complete without a mention of her love of redbirds/cardinals. Visitors to the home would be able to see numerous decorations which featured these most beloved birds. It was not difficult to shop for gifts for this special woman all that was required was to find a plaque, a figurine, a scarf, or coffee cup with a redbird design!
Puzzles, word searches and artwork occupied Carrie's leisure time as well. In addition, she was faithful in keeping a journal. Included in these writings were scriptures, songs and inspirational thoughts which held meaning for her. Family members look forward to exploring these many journals, catching a glimpse into Mammy's thoughts and feelings.
Carrie was a faithful member of St. Paul Global Methodist Church and always enjoyed participating in her Sunday School class, Bible studies and women's group. She welcomed the opportunity to greet her fellow church members with a smile and hug. Because of her friendly and caring nature, many young people at the church affectionately referred to her as ''Mammie'' as well. Carrie Mae ''Mammie'' Vaughn was a strong, caring, nurturing lady who will be greatly missed.
Carrie is preceded in death by her parents, William and Bytha Eudy; brother, Jim Eudy and sister, Mildred Crow; family members remaining to honor her name are: Donald Vaughn (husband of 67 years) of the home; daughter, Donna Mayfield (Ron) of Enid, OK; sons, Jerry Vaughn (Laura) of Farmington, AR and Terry Vaughn (Kelly) of Searcy; sisters, Beatrice Griffin of Houston, Sue Churchwell of Georgetown and Jeanie Eudy of Kensett; brothers, Willard Eudy of Kensett, Larry Eudy of Kensett, Philip Eudy of Searcy and Louis Eudy of Lake Worth, FL; grandchildren, Gregg Pruett (Adriel) of Columbus, OH, Miranda Kidd (Chris) of Altus, OK, Kelsey Blackman (Chris) of Marietta, GA, Morgan Miller (Micah) of Farmington, AR, Kacey Vaughn of Searcy, AR and Kyler Vaughn of Searcy, AR; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to Saint Paul Global Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on May 29, 2024 at Saint Paul Global Methodist Church in Searcy at 10:00 a.m., followed immediately by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Kensett Cemetery.
