of Smyrna, TN
August 31, 1954 - April 8, 2024
Jo Wood Sells, 69, died peacefully on Monday April 8, 2024 at TriStar Stone Crest Medical Center in Smyrna, Tennessee. She was born to Gilmore and Florine Wright Wood in Parkin, Arkansas on August 31, 1954.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Lester Sells; two daughters, Katherine E. Jackson and Sara P. Wood; grandchildren, Leah M. Wilson, Michael S. Rowton, Jr., Carl M. Rowton; great-grandchild, Karly M. Wilson.
Jo Wood Sells, would first and foremost like to be known that she had a tremendous desire for family. With the birth of her first grandchild, that word ''family'' took on a new meaning. From the instant that tiny, messy, gorgeous bundle with red peach fuzz on her head was handed to her she knew her life was forever changed. There were hurdles, victories, defeats, peaks, and valleys up until that day, but that day was a new beginning, one of which she would never tire.
She looked at life as an art form. She took nothing at face value. She loved people and always tried to figure them out ''What externally might seem to have been Quite the free spirit'' was an analytical, complex being. To her water symbolized peace. She could totally lose herself for hours listening to the natural movement of water.
Simple things were pleasing to her. Just knowing that no matter what was going on, in the rest of the world, who's mad at who, or how early it was in the morning, her dogs were always happy to see her. When she felt like no one else cared, one of the dogs or all of the dogs would be all too happy to give her a big kiss or just sit still and cuddle. They were good listeners too. Usually, they heard all the brilliant ideas before anyone else. Weird to some, she liked to think of herself as eccentric.
To some of her life, ''It's been real.'' Real what, you may ask. Each and everyone of you would answer that differently. Each of you would be right. Many different experiences with many different people. All of which made up the person you knew.
