Elmer Edwin Rogers, 98 years and 11 months, known as ''Big Daddy'', peacefully entered his brand new heavenly home early Thursday morning from the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
He was born to Albert and Daphene Rogers at Greasy Valley near Paris on April 15, 1925. He married the love of his life, Willene Appleton and celebrated 66 years together. Elmer enlisted in the Army on October 25, 1945 and served our country in WWII by traveling to Okinawa, Japan. He spent most of his life operating a body shop and salvage yard in Paris. Eighteen years was spent in the same location as his father and brother on South Elm Street.
Elmer loved and served the Lord faithfully. He was a member of the Paris First Assembly of God Church.
He served in the Mission Field work with many trips to Mexico, building churches, schools and orphanages. He also served in the building of the Roseville Assembly of God Church near Ozark.
Elmer enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, dominoes, crossword puzzles, piecing puzzles and solitare. He loved spending time with his family.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Willene; daughter, Yvonne; brothers, Ray, J.T. and Harold Rogers and his sisters, Clarice ''Sis'' Redding Price and Reba Butler.
His is survived by his daughter, Paula McCaulley and husband, Fred; brother, Bob Rogers; grandchildren, Dean Parker and wife, Danys, Stacy Marry and husband, Peter, Jennifer Owen and husband, Dave and Lee McCaulley and wife, Heather. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, Dr. Abby Parker, Zoey Marry, Haley Owen Yeakley and husband, Nick, Riley Owen, Brady Owen, Caden McCaulley and Addison McCaulley and one great-great granddaughter, Lauren Yeakley.
A visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Roller Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024 at First Assembly of God in Paris officiated by Rev. Darren Overton. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Dave Owen, Brady Owen, Caden McCaulley, Larry Shamblin, Van Rogers and Dustin Alford.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Jimmy Rogers, Marvin Wiggins, Charlie Knoles, Larry Hutchinson, Larry White, Ronnie Rogers, Frank Rogers, Kenny Kiefer, Rick Valesquez and James Sidwell.
