Mr. Robert Virdo Anderson, 92, of Mountain Home passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023. He was born August 28, 1931 at the family farm outside of Bakersfield, MO to parents William and Sarah (Smith) Anderson.
He married the love of his life, Alyne M. Smith, on June 12, 1949 in Hocomo, MO.
He was a decorated Army Veteran who served in the Korean War from July 24, 1952 to April 23, 1954. While deployed he was awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation, Distinguished Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal and National Service Medal.
He spent most of his adult life in the Mountain Home area and was a member of the Church of Christ. He worked a variety of jobs until landing at Sears for several years until he retired. He could fix anything.
He and Alyne kept a vegetable garden for many years and he kept himself occupied taking care of the yard and whatever needed fixed until he moved to the Baxter Retirement Village a few years ago. His mother taught him to crochet, a hobby he resumed when he retired. In his later years, he made beaded necklaces and bracelets for whomever he thought needed some. His last project was redoing the seats on a few cane back chairs.
In addition to his parents; Mr. Anderson is preceded in death by his wife, Alyne; infant son, Robert Eugene; siblings, Gus, Emma, Maddie and Nancy and half siblings, Evelyn, Opal, Cecil, Eddie and Delbert.
He is survived by his adopted family, Johnny and Eve Morgeson and their family and grandchildren, whom he loved to have visit and decorate his door at the retirement center; his sister in-law, Zelma Kay (Smith) Birckelbaw and husband, Gordon and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Mr. Anderson will be Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 11:00 until noon at the College and North Church of Christ in Mountain Home. A funeral service will follow at noon. Interment will immediately follow the services at Hawkins Ridge Cemetery near Bakersfield, MO.
Pallbearers will be Grayson Strodtman, Delbert Smith, Bret Moody, Mike Smith, Hunter Ford, Brad Ford, Payton Chafin and Keith Chafin.
All services are under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Mountain Home
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paragould Children's Home in Paragould, AR.
