Phillip Zane Bradford entered into eternal rest on October 18, 2023. He was 96 years old.
Zane was born to Phillip Densmore Bradford and Dovie Ann (Cullum) Bradford on August 13, 1927 in Shirley, Arkansas. He grew up with three brothers and three sisters on a farm raising cotton and other crops. His oldest brother died tragically at age two from an accident.
Zane joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1945-47 in California and Hawaii in the communications center as a Yeoman 2nd class. In 1950, he enrolled at Harding University on the G.I. Bill and received a degree in accounting. In 1955, Zane began working for Carter Oil Co. in Tulsa, OK. In 1961-62, he worked in Durango, Colorado and was then transferred back to Tulsa. During this time, Carter became part of Humble Oil, now Exxon. In 1966, he was transferred to Houston and worked as a computer programmer until he retired in 1983. His hobbies included computers, working crossword puzzles, woodworking and reading. He was a loyal follower and fan to his Houston Astros.
Zane is survived by his wife of 74 years, Crystal of Houston, Texas; three children, Janet Scott (Robert), Debbie Crawford (Barney) all of Springfield, Missouri and Mark Bradford (Brenda) of Houston, Texas. He has one surviving brother, Louis Bradford of Bossier City, Louisiana. He is also survived by six granddaughters, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Visitation with family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, 77055. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24 in the Chapel at Memorial Church of Christ, 900 Echo Lane in Houston, 77024, with Brother Jim Middleton and Brother Larry Phillips officiating.
Graveside services and interment will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28th at Bradford Cemetery in Shirley, Arkansas.
