of Little Rock, AR
February 16, 1951 - October 3, 2023
Jay Alan Hall, 72, passed away surrounded by his family on October 3, 2023. Since being diagnosed on June 1, 2023, with a very aggressive cancer, Diffuse Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, Jay fought with every ounce of strength he had to remain with his family, but it was not meant to be.
He was born in Little Rock on February 16, 1951, to David Lee and Dorothy Belle Hall. He grew up with tons of friends roaming the West Markham community of the 50's and 60's. He graduated from Hall High School in 1969 and immediately joined The Air National Guard. He graduated from The University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a degree in Business with a major in Finance. He was a member of the SAE Fraternity. Jay grew up as a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of Pinnacle United Methodist Church (formerly Winfield United Methodist Church) since the early 90's.
Jay began working at the age of 14. He cut onions at his Uncle Wes's Minute Man Restaurant, assembled backyard sheds as a teenager, and worked for Cain's Coffee Company. During college Jay worked at L.E. Lay & Co., Inc., a mortgage banking firm. There in 1972 he met his wife of 49 years, Katherine Fuller. After graduation he began working at Pulaski Federal Savings and Loan (Savers Federal S&L) in their Real Estate Appraisal Department. He was trained as an appraiser, and it was soon clear that would be his life's career. He earned two professional designations in the appraisal field. He was a Senior Residential Appraiser with the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and a Residential Member of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers. He was very active in the Arkansas chapters of those national organizations, serving in many officer positions. In 1990 Jay opened his own appraisal firm and incorporated it as, Jay Hall & Associates, Inc., in 1992.
Jay loved his life. He loved his wife and her cooking. He loved that they had been married almost 50 years. He loved his daughters and their husbands and was so proud of the lives they have built. He loved his grandchildren with his whole heart, his brother and sister and all his extended family. He was passionate about his hobbies, which over his lifetime included fishing, golf, pheasant hunting, duck hunting, deer hunting and turkey hunting. He also loved all the places he enjoyed those hobbies and all the buddies he enjoyed those hobbies with. He loved the little piece of the woods where he and Katherine raised their family. He also loved the piece of heaven at Lake Ouachita where the family has a lake house. He loved spending time with Katherine's sister Karen and her husband Barrie, especially their trip to Ireland. He loved the friendships he made with those who worked with him. He loved the Razorbacks and all the puppies he ever owned including Poppy and Lulu who now miss him terribly. He loved Old Country Music, making people laugh with a story or joke, looking at maps, chocolate, Oh Brother Where Art There and Broken Trail.
The family wants to recognize Dr. Sunil Kakadia from Genesis Cancer and Blood Institute who took care of Jay from the diagnosis on and Dr. Naveen Yarlagadda from CARTI who cared for him during treatments and hospitalizations at Baptist LR. They were both incredibly compassionate and kind to Jay and all the family. Thanks also go out to the numerous nurses, doctors, and techs at Little Rock Urology, Genesis Cancer and Blood Institute and Baptist Hospital. A special hug goes out to Alexis in the ICU who, for the first time in her nursing career, assisted a patient and family through their goodbyes. It was perfect.
Jay is pre-deceased by his parents David L. and Dorothy B. Hall, and his grandparents Stanley B. and Willie Wright, and James and Ruth Hall. He is survived by this wife Katherine Fuller Hall, daughter Jessica Lynn Hargis (Michael) of Conway, AR, and children Matthew Avery and Emma Katherine, and daughter Julie Christine McCallister (Aaron) of Little Rock, AR, and children Joshua Aaron, Olivia Rene, and Ella Mae.
