of Little Rock, AR
January 14, 1927 - September 16, 2023
Marvin Rhodes Taylor was born January 14, 1927 in Little Rock, AR and passed away September 16, 2023.
Marvin met the love of his life, Billie Jo Eddins, at Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Dallas, TX, where Marvin was the choir director and Jo sang in the choir. They were married in 1948 and celebrated 74 years of marriage on August 20, 2022.
He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Little Rock.
Marvin proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1945-46, stationed at Higgins Air Force Base, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career at the Arkansas Employment Security Division and retired in 1989.
He loved music and took great pride playing his trombone and serving as the manager and announcer for the Stardust Big Band of Hot Springs, Arkansas from 1981-1996. One of his favorite stories was about meeting a fellow soldier, Anthony Benedetto, who sang and entertained the soldiers on the base. Benedetto asked Marvin to play trombone with the band. After the war, Benedetto went on to be known by his stage name, Tony Bennett.
Marvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by children, Clayton (Martha) of Little Rock and Becky Riemer (Kirk) of Half Moon Bay, CA; grandchildren, Jay Taylor and Sam Taylor (Janis), Allison Riemer (Alex) and Andrew Riemer and great-granddaughter, Olivia.
