of Maumelle, AR
March 28, 1957 - July 26, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arkansas State Treasurer, Mark Dale Lowery. A beloved resident of Maumelle, Arkansas, Mark was born on March 28, 1957 and his journey on this earth came to an end on July 26, 2023.
Mark was a remarkable individual, known for his kind heart, quick wit, conservative values, and unyielding perseverance. Every moment of every day he lived his dream by serving others. There was no stronger conservative, and it showed in how he voted, led, and fought for Arkansans. His smile, charm, and love of people brightened our lives. An award-winning debate master, and superior public speaker, Mark flourished in the spotlight, speaking about issues dear to his heart. Mark made it a mission to build lasting relationships with constituents across the state, evidenced by his staggering lead in the election results in November 2022.
Mark was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He treasured his family and cherished every moment spent with his granddaughters. He was a constant source of inspiration and love, and will forever be remembered for the lasting impact he had on their lives.
Professionally, Mark was a man of many talents. He held various positions from editor of the Maumelle Monitor and The Sherwood Voice to lobbyist and executive director for the Arkansas Chapter of the National Association of Financial Advisors. He taught communications at the University of Central Arkansas and Henderson State University. Mark realized his true calling when he was elected in 2012 to his first term in the Arkansas State Legislature, and served five terms there, before elected Arkansas State Treasurer in November 2022. Although his time as Treasurer was cut short, the impacts of his leadership and commitments to the state continue to resound through the Treasury staff that was hand-selected by Treasurer Mark Lowery.
Outside his professional endeavors, Mark had a profound love of golf, technology (specifically Apple and vintage MAC products), Jerry Seinfeld and David's Burgers. He was an excellent vocalist and enjoyed singing in church and serving in church music departments at various times in his life. Mark was a devoted Arkansas Razorback fan, an avid movie collector and faithfully collected parts to one day restore his 1989 Jaguar XJ6. A deeply sentimental man, he kept letters, photos, cards and notes he received from family and friends throughout the years. As a lifelong Christian, Mark found solace in his relationship with Jesus and often shared one of his favorite verses, "If God is for us, then who can be against us?" Romans 8:31
Mark's departure from this world leaves a void in our hearts that can never be filled. It is said that where there is deep grief, there is great love. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and patriotism that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
Mark Lowery was predeceased by his parents, William (Sam) and Shirley Lowery and siblings, Sharon Butler and William Lowery, Jr. He is survived by his son, Andrew Lowery of Bluffton, SC; daughter, Erin (T.J) Hill; granddaughters, Violet and Delilah of Hampstead, MD; siblings, Mary (Lew) Eddleman of Carlisle, Debbie (Kelly) Fox of Dewitt and Chris (Andrew) Lowery of Mt. Ida and nieces and nephews.
Mark will Lie in State at the State Capitol Rotunda on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 9:00am until 3:00pm.
A visitation will be from 6-8 on Friday, July 28, 2023 at New Life Greater Church of North Little Rock, 8000 Crystal Hill Road, North Little Rock, AR 72118. Funeral services will be 12:30pm on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at New Life. A burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
