Richard Wayne Jennings, born April 30, 1942 to Willard and Cynthia Jennings, passed from this life on July 12, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Jennings; brother, James Jennings and sister, Judy Jones.

Richard is survived by his wife, Virginia Campbell-Jennings of the home; sister, Shrea (John) Harmon of Bee Branch; son, David Jennings of Bee Branch; daughters, Rebecca (Roy) Sullivan of Bee Branch, Melissa (Steve) MeGee of Damascus, Terry (Cindy) Campbell of Greenbrier, Greg (Katrina) Campbell of Conway; grandchildren, Devon (Sierra) Sullivan, Dustin (Mallorie) Jennings, Kendal (Jeffrey) Bramlett, Sarah MeGee, Megan Campbell, Brandon Campbell; two great grandchildren and one on the way.

Richard was a family man. He was always helping his family and he was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Richard was willing and ready to go and sit in the front row at any school event. He was a member of the Navy in his youth and got to see the world. He was an expert farmer and gardener. Richard had many hobbies from photoshop, to taking up the lens to become a photographer and later gifting his family with homemade gifts when he took up woodworking. He was a wisecracker of quick wit and always had a joke at hand to share and make people laugh. Out of all these things, Richard was most definitely a competitor. He loved sports. He loved watching, supporting and participating in all sporting activities. Richard played baseball and slow pitch softball. He was so proud to watch his children and grandchildren participating in basketball, softball, baseball, track and even showing animals. He believed that competition brought out the best in a person. Richard was competitive in many things; cornhole, washers, hillbilly golf, checkers, cards, sports, weaning the heavy calf and even getting the highest yield of hay per acre. He also was an expert in the rules of any sport that his family was involved in. Richard knew all there was to know about any subject he, his children, or his grandchildren were doing. If he didn't, he would print out the handbook and memorize it as soon as he got wind of a new activity. Richard respected the rules of the game and its officials.

Using this analogy helps to understand his last few days. After his sudden and serious illness, he fought long and hard to get better. In his life, he was a good man that followed the rules as a provider, supporter, neighbor, spouse, father and grandfather. Richard was a good and honest man. There are far more stories, memories, jokes, descriptions, pictures and glimpses into Richard's life and his story, more than any obituary could hold. Most importantly is knowing and thanking God for peace of mind and miracles that come from the wonderful life of Richard Jennings.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Damascus. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the church. Interment will be in Morganton Cemetery.
