Edwin Lewis Baldwin

Died May 24, 2023

Edwin Lewis Baldwin, 86, passed away peacefully at the Hospice House in Mountain Home following a courageous and prolonged battle with cancer.

Ed was born in Waterloo, Iowa to Rev. Sterling John and Gladys Marie Baldwin. After graduation from West Union High School, he received his Bachelor's Degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids and in 1958 joined the United States Air Force, becoming an officer. He served for 20 years until his retirement in 1979.

After retiring, Ed was employed by multiple companies in California, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Following his retirement from the private sector, he and his wife Coni moved to Red Oak, IA where they worked together as Baldwin Aviation Service serving as the fixed base operators of the Red Oak Municipal Airport. Growing weary of the Iowa winters, they migrated to Carlsbad, NM to thaw out. After a few years, they finally settled in Mountain Home, AR.

During retirement, he volunteered with Habitat For Humanity, served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, and served with the Coast Guard Auxiliary on Bull Shoals Lake. He volunteered at Baxter Regional Medical Center as a shuttle driver. Through the years Ed enjoyed bowling, golfing, tennis, boating, fishing, and flying his light plane. He and Coni also enjoyed traveling the country in their motor home, visiting family and friends, with their cats in tow. Behind Ed's sometimes gruff exterior, he had a very soft heart for animals. He was a cat person for most of his life but then was surprisingly adopted by his dog Gypsy, who won his heart.

For his entire life, Ed was active in church, from being a preacher's kid to a session member and singing in the choir as long as his health permitted. His rich Baritone voice complimenting those of the other choir members as they sang praises to God, has been and will continue to be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister: Barbara Hirsch; his brother: Lynn Baldwin; his wife of 34 years: Constance Adela Baldwin; and her son: Kenneth Stalder.

He is survived by his sister: Dorothy Kingery of Chattanooga, TN; his son: Jeffrey, and wife Kelly of Sahuarita, AZ; his daughter: Dr. Beth Morrell and husband John of Greeneville, TN; and Coni's children: Carol Nimmons and husband John of Long Beach, CA; and Phillip Stalder of Pasadena, CA; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to honor Ed's life will be on July 15th at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home with Rev. Daniel Thueson officiating. Please consider a memorial gift to the choir of First United Methodist Church 605 W 6th St. Mountain Home, AR 72653 in lieu of flowers.
