Allene Doris Knedlik, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed from this life at home in Gamaliel, Arkansas on May 26th, 2023 at the age of 74. Allene was born on April 9, 1949 to Herbert and Doris George in Coffeyville, Kansas and grew up there, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew her.
In 1967 she graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School and spent one year at Coffeyville Community College. In 1968, Allene married Ronald Knedlik and together they embarked on a journey that took them to Lawrence, Kansas, where she attended University of Kansas part time. A move to Tulsa, Oklahoma followed, where she attended the University of Tulsa for one year. Moving on to Terlton and later Yale, Oklahoma, she attended Oklahoma State University, graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1972. The couple later relocated to Midland, Texas, where their children, Sarah and Matt were born. Afterward, pursuing opportunities, their family moved to Eagle River, Alaska, where their youngest child, Rebekah, was born. In 1978, they decided to return to their home in Kansas. Allene dedicated her time to raising her children before starting substitute teaching for a few years in Caney and Coffeyville, Kansas. She began full-time work as Director of Adult Basic Education at Coffeyville Community College and later as the Dean of Academic Affairs. Allene worked at Coffeyville Community College for 13 years before leaving to become Vice President at Neosho County Community College. While working, she attended Pittsburg State University for her Master of Science degree in 1987 and continuing her education, she graduated with a PhD from Kansas State University in 2003. She retired from work in 2007 as the Vice President from Allen County Community College.
Allene was a woman of unwavering principles and remarkable character. She was deeply committed to her faith and an active member of the Church of Christ, devoting over 50 years to teaching children, ladies' classes and eagerly volunteering wherever help was needed.
During their retirement years, Allene and Ron built their own home on her great grandparent's original homestead in Gamaliel, Arkansas. Allene enjoyed cooking and baking with her granddaughters and watching all the grandkids play sports over the years. She also enjoyed the experience of gardening, canning and dehydrating fruits and vegetables in Alaska, Kansas and Arkansas.
Allene D. Knedlik will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, strength and dedication will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Services for Allene will be held on Friday, June 2nd at 2:00 pm at Roller Funeral Home, Mountain Home, AR. Services will also be held on Saturday, June 3rd at 10:00 am at Coffeyville Church of Christ in Coffeyville, KS, a family graveside service will follow.
Allene is survived by husband, Ron of the home; daughter, Sarah Staton and son-in-law, John and grandchildren, Lily, Benjamin and Grace; daughter, Rebekah Manuel and son-in-law, Kelly and grandchildren, Paige and Kole and son, Matthew Knedlik; sister-in-law, Linda George and nieces, Cynthia Weston, Misti Secrest and Melinda Henry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Doris George; brother, Curtiss George and his daughter, Caryn and brother, Jeff George
