Albert L. Simmert, 84, of Mountain Home, AR passed away May 19, 2023 in Mountain Home. He was born February 19, 1939 in Missoula, Montana to Albert Simmert and Emily Churchill Marks.
Al graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelors Degree in Education. He work for the railroad for 38 years, for Northern Pacific that later turned into Burlington Northern. Al married Darlene Simmert on March 5, 1964. In 1994, Al and Darlene both left their jobs to become ministers at the Salvation Army in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Al accomplished great mission work and was a dedicated follower of Christ. They traveled to Kingston, Jamaica in 1997 to work at a school for the blind. They traveled all over the world for their missionary work including Pakistan, Nebraska, Jamaica, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iraq and many more. They went to India after the tsunami damage in 2004 and helped at Ground Zero in 2001. He also loved to attend troubled churches throughout the country and stay to help them get turned around.
Al truly loved to help anyone he could and he always made an impression on the friends he made. He never met a stranger and people all over the world would remember him after returning from his long travels. When they weren't traveling for their mission work, Al enjoyed spending time in his garden planting flowers and helping his children.
Albert is survived by his wife, Darlene Simmert; nine children, Larry (Sue) Simmert of Rockford, IL, Kelly (Bill) Holt of Jacksonville, NC, Richard (Carla) Simmert of Chandlerville, IL, David Simmert of Phillipsburg, MT, Albert Simmert of French Town, MT, Michael Simmert of Channahon, IL, Joseph (Margie) Simmert of Grand Blanc, MI, Mary (Mark) Eschel of Hoffman Estates, IL and Angela (Tim) Evenson of Minneapolis, MN; 39 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and siblings, Wallace Simmert, Olive "Dolly" Fifield, Tina Rickett, Thomas Simmert and Martha Phillips.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Eric Holt.
A visitation will be held at 10:00am Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Roller Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow. Interment will occur at Baxter Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of cut flowers, the family requests roses that can be planted. Monetary donations may be made to the Salvation Army Children's Ministry in Mountain Home.
