of Mountain Home, AR

August 11, 1935 - May 9, 2023

Dr. Daniel Pepin Chock, age 87, of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born on August 11, 1935 in Medan, Indonesia to Ngiap Tjing and Djoei Tjing (Djoei) Tjok. He married Helga Elisabeth Rumler in Germany and they had two daughters.
Dr. Chock grew up in Sumatra, Indonesia where his father owned a large Coconut Plantation. He attended Catholic Primary School in Medan, Indonesia, a big city, where the nuns spoiled him. He was even able to talk one nun out of her Rosary! He attended Methodist High School. This is when he joined the Methodist Church and made his lifelong commitment. Dr. Chock enjoyed sports; his favorites were basketball and martial arts. He was an Eagle Scout during his college years in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Chock attended medical school in Heidelberg, Germany, supported by a retired Army Nurse, Colonel Elizabeth Fitch. Dr. Chock later established the Elizabeth Fitch Scholarship for nurses' education here in Mountain Home. Dr. Chock received his Doctorate of Nephrology in Chicago, Illinois. He established a very small Dialysis Unit here in Mountain Home which grew fast to its current size.
Dr. Chock loved his family; wife, Helga, daughters, Monika and Susanne. He was a dedicated father and made sure that his girls were well educated. They both became physicians. Dr. Chock would go on bicycle rides sometimes, even in his white coat and then hurry back to the office. He loved taking his family on big trips to Hawaii, Europe and Australia. Locally he enjoyed fishing trips to Rock Bridge, Missouri and he happily helped his girls take the fish off the hooks. Dr. Chock enjoyed cooking Indonesian food. The girls would often go to the office after school and get into Dr. Chock's secret stash of cookies.
Dr. Chock loved snowy winters, as there was no snow in Indonesia. He enjoyed playing with his girls in the snow.
On Dr. Chock's bucket list was a trip to China, which he was able to do after his retirement. Dr. Chock truly loved and enjoyed being a doctor, serving as a Nephrologist here in Mountain Home for over 28 years.
Dr. Chock's family will always be grateful for the husband and father he was. He always taught to put care into everything you do.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mountain Home
