of Bee Branch, AR
February 14, 1927 - December 13, 2022
Bernice Faye (Graham) Stacks departed this world on December 13, 2022 at the age 95. She was born on February 14, 1927 to Emmett Graham, a WWI Veteran and Lura Anne (French) Graham, an accomplished writer and school teacher in Bee Branch, Arkansas.
Bernice's family moved to Damascus when her father was accepted to work at the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) camp when she was around seven years old. It was during this time that her most treasured childhood memories were made. They returned to the family farm, in the valley near Bee Branch, when she was a teenager. Bernice was a bright young woman who graduated high school a semester early to move to Little Rock with a group of girlfriends eager to begin their lives as fearless, independent women. When WWII ended, she was swept off her feet by a handsome young soldier named R.B. who wanted to be a farmer. Though becoming a farmer's wife was in sharp contrast to the modern city life she'd become accustomed to, they soon married and moved home to begin a farm and family of their own. He promised her she would have every convenience and he worked their whole lives to make sure he kept that promise.
Bernice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy came from watching her family grow and thrive. She was a wonderful homemaker and a talented seamstress, who began sewing at the age of ten and continued to sew throughout her life professionally and for friends and family. Bernice was an avid and lifelong reader. She was a regular at the library and enjoyed reading to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She loved the Lord with all of her heart. She took her greatest comfort from the 23rd Psalm, could recite it beautifully and encouraged everyone she loved to memorize it too.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Winfred; sisters, Margie, Opal and Bonnie and her loving and devoted husband of 70 years, R.B. Stacks.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Judith VanPelt, Tom Stacks (Susan) and John Stacks; grandchildren, Michael Stacks (Jamie), Lori Thone (Brandon), Lucas Stacks (Amanda), Kelli VanPelt (Klint), Kara Paxton (Kris), Court Stacks (Whitney), Ryan Stacks (Leigh Erin) and Tate Stacks; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dewey Eubanks; several beloved nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
A special thank you to her caregivers, Brenda, Tara, Maranda, and Laura who cared faithfully for her at home and to Mrs. Eva Brown, who was not only her favorite hairdresser, but above all, a treasured friend.
A funeral service will be on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier, Arkansas at 1:00pm, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be in Blackwell Cemetery, Bee Branch, Arkansas.
