of Harrison, AR
December 3, 1922 - November 8, 2022
Marie (Cochran) Hudson, of Harrison, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at 99 years of age. The daughter of Jack and Luda (Barron) Cochran, she was born on December 3, 1922, in Benton, Arkansas. Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, I.W. Hudson; her parents; her brother, Bobby Cochran; her daughter, Jeanne Hames Ball; her son-in-law, Buddy Ball, and her grandson, Kendall Stuart Ball.
Marie retired from the Employment Security Division in Harrison. Her great loves were her husband, her faith, her family, and the Arkansas Razorbacks...not necessarily in that order. Pappaw I.W. was the love of her life and dearest companion. Their retirement allowed them to focus on family and they took many trips together, one of their favorites being "Out West" for two or three weeks each year to visit family. Marie had some strict travel rules like short driving days, Willie Nelson on the radio, REAL sit-down meals, and hotel rooms on the FIRST FLOOR. Anyone accompanying them soon learned that they were definitely on Granny's schedule.
Her faith was very important to her. She was a devoted member of the Union Baptist Church for many years and often could be found helping in the church office or wherever needed. Granny was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She kept up with her large brood and attended as many special milestones as possible. Family meant the world to her and one foot into her den and you were surrounded by her ever-expanding collection of photographs of her loved ones. A serious Razorback fan, she didn't have much use for the Texas Longhorns or the Alabama Crimson Tide. Seeing Coach Saban's face would put an instant curl to her lip. And it was NEVER a good idea to mention them in her company and one great-grandson was nearly disowned for sporting a Texas sweatshirt in her presence.
Marie is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Tom Potts of Valley Springs, Ann Hames of Harrison, Janith Blackwell of Houston, Texas, and Joetta and Steve Shaffer of Wichita, Kansas; her brother, Wayne Cochran and his wife Oretha, of Benton, Arkansas; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; extended family and her church family.
Many thanks to the folks at Hillcrest Nursing Home for the excellent care that our Granny has received in the years since Pappaw passed in 2018 and to all who had visited and sent their love.
