of Marshall, AR
August 6, 1944 - October 18, 2022
We are sad to announce that Gary "Jack" Treat went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2022, at the age of 78, after a short and unexpected battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Jack was the youngest of 11 born to Troy and Clara Treat in Marshall, Arkansas on August 6, 1944. He married his elementary school sweetheart and the love of his life, Edna Jean Hubbard, on January 30th, 1961.
In 1962 they moved to Urbana, IL with their only child, Greg Treat. In Illinois he ran a successful drywall business for 11 years. In 1973 the family moved back home to Marshall, Arkansas. In 1975 Jack and Edna Jean purchased Searcy County Feed and Farmer's Supply from Kenneth and Edna Hubbard, which went on to become Jack Treat Lumber Company. They owned and operated Jack Treat Lumber Company for 30 years. Jack served his community in many ways, he sat on multiple boards including: Searcy County Chamber of Commerce (of which he founded), Airport Commission, 4-H Foundation, Searcy County Industrial Development, Ozark Heritage Arts Center and the Northwest Regional Housing Authority. After retirement Jack was an investor in HomeBank, sitting on the board and subsequently worked as Senior Vice President and Loan Officer for First National Bank. He was awarded the Distinguished Alumni award from Marshall High School in 2011 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Searcy County Chamber of Commerce in 2013. Of all his roles, accolades and titles, none made him prouder than "Husband", "Dad" and "Grandpa". Jack loved his grandchildren. They spent many hours together riding dirt bikes, fishing and shooting guns. Every Christmas he made sure Santa spent a little more time dropping off presents at the Treat household, leaving reindeer food on the roof and milk and cookies in the living room. It worked. The house was always overflowing with presents in the morning. Jack was selfless in everything he did; he was especially selfless when it came to his family.
He is preceded in death by parents, Troy and Clara Hall Treat and siblings, Victor, Jimmie, Russell, Wenoka, Marion, Wenona, Charles, John D and Joe.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Edna Jean Treat; son, Greg Treat (Teresa); grandson, Jack Treat (Emma); granddaughter, Maddie Treat and sister, Geneva Massey of Conway, Arkansas.
Graveside services for Jack will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 21st, 2022 at East Lawn Cemetery in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. James L. Horton and Bro. Donald Patterson officiating. Friends and family will serve as bearers.
Many thanks to Ozark Health Medical Center doctors, nurses, PT, OT, speech therapists, respiratory therapists, aides and custodians for their compassionate care. A very special thanks to Dr. Steven James.
