Jack's parents and uncles and aunts owned Mays Store in Marshall while he was growing up, so there was plenty of time for mischief and fun around the square with all the cousins and friends from other family businesses. Jack loved to laugh and was quite mischievous as a youngster. One such endeavor he rode his pony, Topsy, through Mays Store during store hours and was later 'bucked off Topsy during a town parade. Young Jack and a cousin accomplice also burned down a shed while sending smoke signals to another cousin. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1963. Jack married his high school sweetheart, Sharon, on January 17, 1965 and went on to attain a business degree from Arkansas Tech University in 1967. Jack and Sharon spent time in the Witts Springs Community from the Fall of 1967 to the Spring of 1970 while they worked at the school. Jack and Sharon lived three years in Russellville before returning to Marshall to work for a cousin selling real estate, which later opened the door for him to purchase his own real estate business. Jack went on to acquire his appraisal license and continued his career in real estate until his retirement. Jack was introduced to the outdoors as a young man by his Uncle Doyle Horton. He spent most of his free time hunting, fishing and camping with his friends and family. In his later years he and Sharon enjoyed spending time at their family cabin on the White River with his children and grandchildren. Jack accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 10. He was an example of love to his family. He was a patient man with a kind, humble heart, always calm during the storms of life. He was perpetually optimistic and witty. Jack lived by example and was thankful for what he had and always willing to share. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
