of Mountain View, AR
February 23, 1951 - May 14, 2022
Gerald Ivy departed this life on May 14, 2022, at the age of 71. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 12 during Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church. A 1969 graduate of Mountain View High School, he married Ronda (Risner) Ivy in 1978 and had two children; Richard Ivy of Mountain View, father of Emma and Isabella Ivy, and Adam Ivy of Austin, Texas.
Gerald was a familiar face in the community since the age of 16, when he began working at Dearien Supply. He has held several positions throughout the years at Ramsey's Hardware, Modern Builders, Mountain View High School, Stone County Skilled Nursing Facility, Conestoga Wood Specialties, TD Home Center and in the last several years, returning to where he began at Dearien Supply. He treated his coworkers and customers as family, always offering a helping hand, never speaking a cross word and willing to give all that he had.
An active and devoted member of his community, he held positions on the Stone County Quorum Court, Mountain View City Council, Optimist Club and coached youth baseball and basketball. In these positions, just as in his jobs, he was known for his hard work, helpfulness, good sense, easy humor and ability to lead through thoughtfulness.
Outside of his work and less well-known than his community activities, he was also a self-taught musician, skilled in both the bass and drums. He was in several bands in his teens and twenties. A lifetime lover of music, particularly sixties and seventies rock and pop. Those close to him will remember his smile when the Beatles or Creedence Clearwater Revival would come through the radio.
An avid golfer, he was often found at the local course enjoying a round with the guys, teaching his granddaughters the rules of the game, or giving them golf cart driving lessons in the backyard.
He is survived by his wife, Ronda Ivy; his sons, Richard Ivy of Mountain View, Adam Ivy and partner Gilbert Acosta of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Emma and Isabella Ivy of Mountain View; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Von and Earnestine (Storey) Ivy; grandparents, Luther (Doc) and Mattie Storey, Joe Ivy and Ona Smith Ivy and sister-in-law, Teresa (Risner) Cowell; all of Mountain View.
A member of First Baptist Church, he will be remembered for his humility, kindness and service to his family and community.
