October 30, 1933 - December 26, 2021
Johnnie Charles Campbell, age 88 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Sunday, December 26th, 2021 at his home with his girls by his side. He was born in Pleasant Grove, Arkansas on October 30th, 1933 to Johnnie Lee Campbell and Connie Nevada Jones Campbell.
JC was a 4 year navy veteran serving during the Korean War as a Boatswain's Mate on aircraft carriers. After leaving the Navy, JC went into the Navy reserves. After his navy career, JC worked as a construction foreman alongside Superintendent Guy Plumlee helping to build one of the largest man-made lakes and golf courses in Ruidoso, New Mexico. He and Guy Plumlee became dear friends and were very close up until the time Guy passed away. After several years in the construction field, JC started driving a semi-truck hauling cattle for Jack Simpkins for 15 years. After that, JC went to work for McGeorge Construction operating a bulldozer until retirement. After retirement he worked privately running a dozer for Elton Smith and the late Phil Steen in the Marshall area. He ended his work career driving a dozer for Willis Dale Horton of Marshall. JC loved operating a dozer and took pride in his work. He was known as one of the best finish dozer operators in the area and was a very loyal and hard worker. JC suffered with severe arthritis and COPD and at the end of his work career, he had to carry oxygen to work to be able to breathe. While working for Willis Dale Horton, he worked alongside Jack Manes who became a very dear friend to JC. Jack took very good care of JC and often would start the dozer and have it ready for him when he got to work and kept it serviced for him. JC always said he couldn't do without Jack Manes. JC worked up until the age of 85. JC enjoyed fishing as well as camping with his girls and their families and traveling all over to car races. Later in years, he and his stepson, Bill Sellers traveled together attending many races. JC was a Mason of 63 years. He was a member of the Calf Creek Lodge #426, the Campbell Lodge #115 and the St. Joe Lodge #317. He was a past master of all 3 lodges. He took Masonry very seriously and done his best.
