On Sept. 17, 1931 in Calico Rock, Arkansas, James Walter and Bertha (Stapleton) Hicks were blessed with 13 lbs. of baby boy and they named him Glen Harlin Hicks. He was born the 5th of 6 children.

There may not be anyone left who remembers 16 year old Glen (more commonly called Harlin in these parts) giving his life to Christ and being baptized in Cotter Springs.

Probably few remember the young man that helped construct Bull Shoals Dam, but that was a favorite memory.
From there you may remember he then went on to teach school and become a fisher of men for over 50 years by pastoring churches in Bruno, Lexa, Childress, Little Rock, Flippin (Antioch and First Baptist Church) and Peel, Arkansas.
Who remembers how he loved to hunt and fish? Do you remember how much he enjoyed taking his grandkids fishing and how he could still clearly recall who caught what, how many were reeled in, on which bait and exactly where, years after they had all grown up.
I'm sure grandsons, Derrick and Grant, vividly remember taking him fishing on the beautiful White River for the last time when he was 89.
Others might remember the fishing guide, the storyteller, the man of prayer, the preacher, the carpenter, the fish fryer, the checker player, the gardener, or Pa to his grandkids.
As a friend recently said, ''To have a conversation with him, you would get a sermon, a political science lesson and a history lesson''.
And now we have memories to treasure.

Glen is survived by daughters: Theresa Lynn Hurst of Mountain Home, Arkansas (who couldn't keep her fishing line in the water) and Cheryl Ann Parker (Bill) of Wichita, Kansas (who caught more fish because she kept her line in the water). This was the last story my daddy told me.

Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren: Derrick (Tanea) Hurst, Coraline and Henry of Ozark, Missouri; Brett Denbow, Sebastian, Ruby and Smith Denbow of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Brittany Denbow Wadley (Dustin) of Springfield, Missouri; Jamie Denbow Williams (Dre) of Houston, Texas; Grant Hicks Denbow (Alyson) of Springfield, Missouri; Mary Hardisty, his caregiver, of Flippin. The family cannot thank Mary enough for the incredibly giving, compassionate and loving job she did in helping ''Mr. Glen'' stay home for as long as possible, which was almost to the end.
He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and wife, Dorotha, whom he married on June 28, 1955.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Flippin, on Friday, November 26, 2021, with the Rev. David Holman officiating.

Interment will follow at Flippin Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bert Benton, Lowell Hall, Grant Denbow, Greg Hopper, Michael Benton, and David Stoner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nubbin Stoner, Glennis Sharpe, Bob Sharp, and Charles Jefferson.

Arrangements are by Roller-Funeral Home in Yellville.
