of England, AR
November 1, 1928 - March 22, 2019
Walter Carroll Chaney, Sr., of England, departed this world March 22 to spend glorious eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after an inspired and inspiring battle with cancer. He was born in Coy, Arkansas to Walter and Polly Hallum Chaney on November 1, 1928, was of the First Baptist Church of England.
He is survived by a son, Carroll Chaney of Coy; daughter, Laura Chaney (Chad) Hill of Siloam Springs; sister, Jane Dean Chaney Craft of Little Rock; grandchildren, Lee, Sarah, Rachel, Will and Rebekah; six nieces and four nephews; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Frances Louise Good Chaney; a son, Mark Wayne Chaney of England.
Mr. Walter was a farmer and outdoorsman, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He grew cotton, soybeans and rice in south Lonoke county. Winters, he worked with his lifelong friends the Pettys at their Fur House in England, enjoying trips to the fur market in New York. He was a fine shotgunner, competing nationally on the trap circuit. He seemed most comfortable outdoors and spent most days of most duck seasons at his Poor Boy Duck Club, in later years rationalizing that ducks don't quit flying at 8:30 am. He was also an agricultural pilot, and once explained to an Air Force pilot friend that nearly anybody could fly a plane at 30,000 feet, but it took a real skill to fly one 6 feet off the ground. His universe, though, revolved around his wife, children and grandchildren. He carried photographs in a manila folder and was quick to show off his beautiful family and discuss their accomplishments with his friends. He was rightfully proud of them, and they of him.
A private family burial will be held at a later time. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Roller England Funeral Home (501) 842-3939.
