Mary Catherine Vantrease Carrozza, 98, died on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at Methodist North Hospital. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Salvatore Carrozza. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Lyllian Earle (Bob) of Hermitage, TN, and a son, Wayne Sal Carrozza (Liz) of Memphis. She had one grandchild who pre-deceased her. She is survived by six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She was born in Nashville in 1913.
She survived the Great Depression, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Viet Nam War, and the Iraqi War. Another of America's ''Greatest Generation'' has left us. As a Navy wife, she made a home for her family where ever she went, including San Diego, Virginia Beach, New York, Rome and Naples, Italy, Washington, DC, Pensacola, Philadelphia, Memphis, Honolulu, and Nashville. After her husband's passing in 1999, she moved to Memphis.
The family would like to thank those caregivers who were so diligent, patient, and loving to Mary in the final years.
Visitation will be at the Catholic Church of the Ascension at 10 am on Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am. Burial will take place at the Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Brothers University's General Scholarship Fund or St. Jude Hospital.
