Hazel was one of the most gifted providers in developmental pediatrics. I knew her first when I was an intern, then later on staff. She was tireless in her approach and steadfast concern for the child and family. I turned to her so frequently, when I had questions, concerns or issues related to my own children also. I trusted her totally. RIP Hazel. You deserve a wonderful send off. Thank you for all you did here on earth!
Hazel mentored me at UT CDC (now Boling Center) when I was a school psychology student at Memphis State. She watched me test from behind the mirrored window. She saw all my guffaws as a trainee and taught me with such respect and professionalism. She taught me how to inform parents of their childrens' disabilities. She taught me how the disciplines (psychology, medicine, social work, speech/language, nutrition) all work together. I give her credit for teaching me to be the professional I am today. I loved her dearly. I loved hearing about the joy she found in water color painting. I was so happy when I saw her coming to worship at my church, Second Presbyterian, where I have sung for years in the choir. She loved the preaching of Dr. John Richard deWitt and she joined (I believe) the Chapel Sunday School class. Hazel has left a great legacy.
Hazel was one of the best teachers I had as a student and was an esteemed colleague for nearly 40 years. It was a privilege to be her colleague and an honor to be her friend.
Ms Capps was such a precious lady. I am so sorry for your loss. My mom was a resident roommate of hers France's untill we moved her. She would always give you a smile. So sorry to hear the news our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
