Martha L. Mealer

of Mountain View, AR

July 27, 1925 - July 15, 2015

Martha L. Mealer, 89, of Mountain View, Arkansas passed from this life on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Highland Court Resident Care Facility in Marshall, Arkansas. Martha was born on July 27, 1925 in Last Chance, Oklahoma to the late Herby and Clara Leona (Gammill) Branscum. Martha's life was a testament to her faith in God and to her church. Martha was a faithful member of Red Doors Missionary Baptist Church where she was the pianist for many years. She leaves behind a legacy of singing, piano playing, as well as teaching piano, because Martha wanted more than anything for every country church in the county to have a piano player. Martha was a dedicated funeral director for Roller Crouch and Roller Coffman funeral homes in Mountain View, Arkansas for over 37 years. To Martha this was not just a job she had a love for people and serving families in their time of need. As of 2006 Martha played and sang at over 600 funerals.
Martha is survived by her son, Mack Mealer and wife Linda of Timbo, Arkansas; daughter, Charlotte Gaines and husband Kenneth Sr. of Little Rock, Arkansas; two brothers, Jerry Branscum of Hazen, Arkansas and Herby Branscum, Jr. of Perryville, Arkansas; two sisters, Ruth Ratchford of Marshall, Arkansas and Grace McDermont of Hot Springs, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one step granddaughter and five step great-grandchildren; as well as many loving family and friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Herby and Clara Leona (Gammill) Branscum; daughter, Violet Cates; husband, Leamon Mealer; two sisters, Nelbie Richardson and Gennetta Gammill; four brothers, Glen, Sterlin, Landon, and Gid Branscum; and one great-grandson, Matthew Mealer.
Visitation will take place on Friday, July 17, 2015, 6-8PM, at Roller Crouch Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015, 1:00PM at Roller Crouch Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas with Brother Luther Branscum officiating the service and John Barnes reading the obituary. Interment will be at Pordue Cemetery in Onia, Arkansas.
Pallbearers are Randy Mealer, Bryon Mealer, Ken Gaines, Jr., Kris Mealer, Bradley Cates, and Kenneth Gaines, Sr.

My sweet great Aunt Martha will be missed. I got to visit with her last summer with my mom, Sondra Gammill Cownie, and that is a special memory. I also remember as a child going to visit her at her job at the funeral home. She was a lovely, friendly, talented woman. My mother learned to play the piano from her and my mom's playing created special childhood memories for me and my sisters as we used to dance around the house to the tunes. Her talents have been passed along and she will never be forgotten. Thoughts and prayers to the family xoxo

My sweet Aunt Martha will be greatly missed. No better person have I ever known. Many great memories I cherish visiting with her in her home, taking piano lessons from her, listening to her sing and play piano in church. Love to all of the family. I wish I lived closer to be with you all right now. I am there in heart and spirit.

Mack, Linda, Charlotte and families,
We are so sorry to hear about Martha. We loved her so much. I remember going to her house each week when she was giving me piano lessons. She was an excellent piano teacher, the best pianist I've ever heard, and the perfect example of a true Christian. We know she's up in Heaven now playing that piano and singing praises to our Lord and Savior! We will all miss her; you all most of all; but she's no longer in pain and suffering, but healed and happy! Can you just imagine the time her and all of our loved ones that have gone on before are having? As the song says, "Glad Reunion Day"! Our love and prayers are with all of you. May God wrap you all in the comfort of his loving arms and bless you all.
Love,
Dawn and Jacob

We never met Mrs. Mealer in person, but knew of her through our singing convention friends. When we read her obituary, we learned she was born in Last Chance, OK in the adjoining county. We knew several of the Branscum family. After posting her obituary on f/b, others knew her/her family. Our condolences to the family and we know her legacy will live on in Stone County and other places where she was known.
