George Essa Akel of Sherwood passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 with his loved ones at his side. He was born on December 9, 1951 in Ramallah Palestine to the late Essa I. and Knou E. Akel.
George was retired as owner and operator of restaurants and convenience stores.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Essa I. and Knou E. Akel and brother, Nidal E. Akel.
George is survived by two sons, Essa G. Akel (Ruth) and Ishak H. Akel; two sisters, Wisam Kassees (Anwar) and Magidah Akel- Mnatzaganian (Art); uncle, Fuad Akel (Karimah); sister-in-law Hanan Akel; one niece, and a host of nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Little Rock. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Roller-Owens Chapel, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, AR 72116 (501-791-7400).

This man believed in me when no one else did. I loved him to pieces. He will be missed.
What a wonderful man and father. I think of you and Nick often. I know your boys will miss you terribly, but they will be fine, because you raised them right. They are both such good boys and have also shown me so much respect. I will miss you George. I know you are happy now being with Nick again. I can only imagine how deeply his loss was for you. I first met George in 1968. George and I were both enrolling in the second semester at 4th Street Jr. High. We became instant friends and remained friends. George was a good man. A hard worker and provided well for his family and always in good spirits. My prayers and condolences to the family. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Essa, Magidah and Sam, I am so very sorry to hear of George's passing. I am so glad I got to meet him that New Year's Eve a few yrs ago. I will never forget that special nite with such a very special family. All of you are so very kind and special to me. You are in my prayers my dear friends.

It hasnt been that long ago that I talked to you. I havent got to see you for a while but we stayed in touch. I am going to miss you more than you will ever know but, I know you and Nick are doing those Nick and George things that always made us laugh. I got to know George when he and his brother opened the restaurant in Jacksonville. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing...he was always very friendly and kind and remembered my dad. May he rest in peace. Memory eternal.
