Darlene Woodall

of Little Rock, AR

September 21, 1931 - April 16, 2015

Margie Darlene Johnson Woodall, 83, of Little Rock passed away April 16, 2015. She was born September 21, 1931 in Little Rock, AR to Robert Jeff and Verna Lee Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd W. Woodall; her youngest son, Don Edward Woodall; her parents; and her brother, Marvin Jeff Johnson.

Survivors are two sons, Larry W. Woodall (Pat) of Bigelow, AR and Kenneth L. Woodall of Russellville; two brothers, Jeff Edward Johnson of Sherwood, AR and George Lynual Johnson of Benton, AR; and one sister, Shirley Magness, of North Little Rock, AR.

Darlene worked 25 years at AMF Cycle Division in Little Rock. During her employment she helped organize and became a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 5559. In July 1979, she was hired by the International United Steelworkers of America as a Staff Representative. She retired September 2000 after 21 years with this wonderful organization. She had a total of 43 years as a member of the Steelworkers Union and was very proud of that membership.

Darlene was a former member of the Staff Representative Union and served as a member of the Executive Board of said union in Pittsburgh, PA. Being active in the political arena for years, she was a former member of the State Democratic Party of Arkansas and the Pulaski County Democratic Committee. Darlene was honored to be elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention three times: 1984 as a Mondale delegate in San Francisco, 1992 as a Clinton delegate in New York City, and 1996 as a Clinton delegate in Chicago.

She truly believed in the work she did for her union and the political process. Darlene was an enthusiastic Trade Unionist and believed all workers should have representation like she had with the Steelworks Union.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, AR 72211, (501)224-8300. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock. Honorary pallbearers will be the members or former members of the United Steelworkers Union. The family will receive friends from 6 8 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.

We will so miss you in our neighborhood. What a great neighbor you were. And our family will especially miss you since you adopted our son, Austin, as your honorary grandson! You will always hold a very special place in our hearts for that. He always looked forward to telling you about his travels on the mission trips he took. Thank you for supporting him in that! We love you, Darlene. But we will see you again in heaven someday. Lynda Daily, Doug Rawn, and Austin Daily

I was privileged to work with Darlene for a number of years. As a member of management, we occasionally disagreed on issues but Darlene could always be counted on to stand up for what she felt was right and best for the working men & women she represented. Always honest and straightforward, a real pleasure to work with. She will be missed . . .

Darlene was a true champion of the working men and women of this state. There was never any mistake in knowing where she stood on issues and people that were dear to her. If you were her friend, you had a friend for life. I will miss this sweet woman whose heart was always in the right place.
