Betty Jane Perkins

of Little Rock, AR

September 21, 1929 - April 7, 2015

Betty Jane Perkins of Little Rock went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the age of 85. Betty was born on September 21, 1929 in Brownfield, Illinois to William and Lola Slankard Vaughn, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband: John; sons: Randy (Debbie), Alan (Kim), David (Elizabeth), Stuart (Donna); grandchildren: Shelley Faulkner, Jerad Perkins, Jason Perkins, Ken (Mary) Stoner, Allison Taylor Perkins, Jacob Perkins, Julie (Britt) Mitchell, Mary and Anna Perkins, Caleb and Hannah Perkins, great grandchildren: Chloe Faulkner, David Stoner, Riley, Maddie and Elijah Mitchell.

Betty was an only child, but she loved her husband's three sisters: Dot Ryther (deceased), Bonnie Basset (Don) and Pat Ramey (George). They enjoyed traveling together to many places in the U.S.

Betty and John met while attending the University of Missouri and were married August 14, 1949. After graduation they both taught for one year in Missouri and then John was called to active duty in the US Air Force where he served during the Korean War. Military service, further schooling, and John's service in the ministry took them to locations in Texas, Illinois, Louisiana, and Arkansas. They made lifelong friends wherever they served and then finally settled near Little Rock for retirement.

Betty's first love was being a homemaker for her family, but also held several office positions during the family moves. She was very active in the educational work in the various churches where John served. She taught Sunday School at almost all age levels of the church, lastly as an adult teacher.

Her special interest was working with internationals wherever she lived. She was active in Friendship International in Little Rock, teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) for 22 years. She also enjoyed reading historical Christian fiction.

Betty was an active member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church. Family will receive friends 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Private family burial will be at Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery.

Memorials in lieu of flowers: Geyer Springs First Baptist Church Building Fund or Friendship International.

Dear Mr. John and family,
We shall always remember the dedication Ms. Betty had with teaching English for so many years, and so many other things. We couldnt have done so much without Ms. Betty's help and support.
She was truly an angel here on earth, and is now one in heaven. We love you both so so much.
Our prayers always,

Gema and family

Aunt Betty always had a sense of wonder, whether we were looking at art, history, birds, flowers, or butterflies. I always enjoyed her breakfasts when I stayed with John and Betty. She will be missed greatly.
