Lonnie Wilburn McMahan

of Marshall, AR

March 4, 1938 - March 24, 2015

Lonnie Wilburn McMahan, age 77 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at his home. He was born in St. Joe, Arkansas on March 04, 1938 to Lonnie Etsel McMahan and Connie Gladys (Stills) McMahan.

Wilburn or ''Wib'' as his friends and family called him was a good, hard working man that loved and treasured his friends and family. They were his prized possessions! He attended school in St. Joe and moved to Marshall his 9th grade year to help his mom operate the Motor Court Restaurant. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1957 and moved to St. Louis to work in Ironworks Construction. May 11th of 1963 he married Willa Jean Gordon. They left St. Louis in 1967 and moved back to Marshall. They ran the Daisy Queen and ''Wib'' worked for the City of Marshall and later became water Superintendent. He worked ten years for the City before starting his backhoe business. ''Wib'' loved working with the backhoe and discovered he could do things with it that most people could not. In fact, he figured a way to weed and maintain his garden with a backhoe and that made his job of fighting weeds much easier. He always had a garden and shared his fruits and vegetables with friends and neighbors. ''Wib'' had one of the prettiest and most thriving gardens of anyone around. He raised cattle and enjoyed working with them on the farm. ''Wib'' loved camping, fishing and floating the Buffalo River where he was raised. Deer camp was the highlight of his year. They gathered at ''Archey Creek Deer Camp'' for a week in preparation for the ''big kill''. He was the head cook and ''Wib'' said no one complained about the cooking. They all agreed, ''That's just the way I like it!'' for fear they might have to do the cooking. ''Wib'' was a retired Volunteer Firefighter and eventually retired from cattle farming, plumbing and excavating. He continued working his garden, canned what he could and enjoyed visiting with friends and family alongside Willa for their 52 years of marriage.

''Wib'' is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Winfred McMahan; niece, Sharon (Craft) Shaw; great grandson, Cade Horton; and brother-in-law, JC Gordon.

Survivors include his wife, Willa Jean McMahan of the home; one daughter, Adalea Horton and husband Donnie of Marshall; sister, Betty Craft of Tampa, FL; three grandsons, Josh Horton and wife Sheena of Ozark, MO, Caleb Horton and wife Sara of Greenbrier and Jared Horton of Managua, Nicaragua; six great-grandchildren, Drew, Gage, Nash, Gentry Jo, Carter and Avery; five nephews, Clark McMahan and wife Cindy and their son, Tyler of St. Louis, MO, Craig McMahan and wife Karen and sons Chris and Stephen, of New Baden IL, Mike Gordon, daughter Jessica and son Shawn of Licking, MO, John Gordon and son CJ of Rolla, MO, David Shaw, son Josh and wife Megan and their four children, Shannon, Ronan, Fallon and Alden, all of Gordensville, VA; one niece, Rita Graveley and husband Peter and their son, Joseph of North Carolina; and a host of friends and other relatives.

Arrangements are by Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas.
Graveside services for ''Wib'' will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 27, 2015 at McMahan Cemetery, 1909 River Rd, St. Joe, AR with Brother Donnie Horton officiating.
