Silas William Balentine

of Fifty Six, AR

February 8, 1924 - January 31, 2015

Silas William Balentine, age 90, left this life to be with his wife, Vera May Moore-Balentine on January 31, 2015. He is the son of Johnny Richard Balentine and Roberta Thelma Woody-Balentine. He was born in Fifty-Six, Arkansas. He was a member of the Timbo Missionary Baptist Church. He lived a long, full life. There was nothing that gave him more joy than his family. His family could never do any wrong in his eyes. Anyone who knew him heard stories about his family constantly. After WW2 he was a member of the Barkshead CCC. He shared many stories about those times. He briefly moved to Albuquerque, NM in his early years to find employment, but he was blessed to find a good job in Stone County and return to his home roots. He was an electrician and had been tasked with lighting the inside of Blanchard Springs Caverns. He took a lot of pride in that job. Silas retired from the US Forest Service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Paul Balentine; his sisters Thelma Balentine-Alexander, Ann Balentine-Alexander, Cleo Balentine-Green; and his wife Vera May Moore-Balentine.

He is survived by his sister Veo Balentine-Mitchell; son Paul Balentine and wife Gretchen Balentine; his grandchildren Paulette Nichols and her spouse Brent Nichols, Cheri Prince, Dianna Chattergee and her spouse Tapash Chattergee, John Balentine and Katie Balowski; his great grandchildren Kristi Manzanares and her spouse Luis Manzanares, Amber Masterson and her spouse Nathan Masterson, Brody Prince, Hans Musgrave, Brie Musgrave, Savannah Balentine, Hayes Prince, Austin Prince, Sage Balentine, Carly Balentine, Mariah Matteson, Cynthia Corter, Zaylie Balowski and Jaden Balowski; his great-great grandchild Paisley Masterson.

The funeral was held 2:00 PM February 2, 2015 at Roller Coffman Funeral Home with Brother Junior Barham officiating. He was buried in the Pordue Cemetery next to his wife and most of the rest of the Balentine generations.
Pallbearers were Brent Nichols, Brody Prince, Sonny Balentine, Mark Balentine, Bill Jason and Johnny Jason.

Roller Coffman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
